JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) Republican challenger Mitt Romney sought to portray President Barack Obama as weak on foreign policy Wednesday after violent attacks on U.S. diplomatic missions in the Middle East.
...
Romney used the attacks as an opening to assail Obama during an appearance in swing state Florida, accusing the administration of sending "mixed signals to the world" and failing to lead in the face of violence.

Romney had jumped to criticize Obama as the attacks were being waged on U.S. diplomatic missions in Egypt and Libya. Angry mobs attacked the facilities to protest an obscure film by a California filmmaker that ridiculed Islam's Prophet Muhammad.
The U.S. Embassy in Cairo initially issued a statement that criticized the film. Romney, trailing Obama in public opinion polls on their leadership on foreign policy, quickly pounced with a statement before news of the diplomats' deaths, saying the administration's response seemed to "sympathize with those who waged the attacks."

Romney read a brief statement mentioning Egypt and contending that Obama is a weak leader. He then invited questions from reporters, who asked if it was an appropriate tone to take given the deaths and that the White House said it disagreed with the embassy statement. Romney stood firm.
"The president takes responsibility not just for the words that come from his mouth, but also for the words that come from his ambassadors, from his administration, from his embassies, from his State Department," Romney said. "They clearly sent mixed messages to the world. The statement that came from the administration and the embassy is the administration the statement that came from the administration was a statement which is akin to apology. And I think was a severe miscalculation."

I had assumed the Marines were there but their weapons were locked up or certainly not loaded.
The President has besmirched their honor and “to the shores of Tripoli” will have a different meaning from now on.
If Romney backs down one iota, his campaign is over.
Yep. Coward. He’s Jimmy Carter.
I just know that he’s and his evil team are trying to think about how they’re going to use this unconscionable outrage to win this election.
Stand by.
has America found a leader ?
Romney taking it to Barack Obower. I like to see him sock him in the face on Jan 20th as his O’liness is exiting stage lefty.
Spine, Mitt, spine! Keep it up!
“Would the Ambassador be dead if US Marines were guarding the compound instead of Libyan Security Forces hired by the US?”
It is pretty clear that U.S. Marines wouldn’t have informed the mob of the location of the Ambassador, after moving him to a safe house.
CBS reports that the Libyans moved our man, and then told the mob his location.
CBS story quote, about half-way down:
“He said Stevens, 52, and other officials were moved to a second building - deemed safer - after the initial wave of protests at the consulate compound. According to al-Sharef, members of the Libyan security team seem to have indicated to the protesters the building to which the American officials had been relocated, and that building then came under attack.”
“sought to portray”
Sought to portray? Obama did that all by himself.
The democrats are trying to pull the same crap they did in 2008 by telling the Republican’s what we can and can’t talk about (basically in 2008 we couldn’t talk about anything that could hurt Obama). It was, “You can’t talk about Rev. Wright or Bill Ayers or Obama’s past and if you do you are a racist.” Of course McCain dutifuly complied and went as far as condeming other republicans who didn’t. The first thing they are screaming now is “If you question Obama on anything foreign policy related, you are undermining the United States.” I’m glad to see the unlike McCain, Romney seems to be ignoring them.
But for the lamestream, Romney would be ahead at 60 percent.
The Marxist would only have his hardcore 40 percent base.
He is far more nefarious.
He is orchestrator, choreographer and conductor of his North African Caliphate, built at America’s expense at every level. The there is the future. He has encapsulated Israel with his proxies. After their attack on Israel, then it will be America.
Rest assured, he will not have his alien/muzzie ass pried out of OUR White House easily. He loves “rulers” and dicktaters! That is what will be in the pipeline for his control of power.
This from our president who celebrated 9-11 with his brethren in the ME.
But it was okay to criticize Bush and the war policy in 2008 on then candidate Barack Obama Eurpoean tour.
Good job Mitt! Keep pressing and pressing the LOSER.
I first heard that he was killed in a rocket attack. If so, then the attack came from above rather than on the ground.
I’ve heard different information about his death, as well, so I’d say ground Marines on location would have made a difference depending on the nature of the attack.
The answer to your question is YES.
Exactly ..... I had seen that story on Hot Air which is why I posed the question (should have posted the link, too - thanks!!).

‘’Romney stood firm.’’ The three most beautiful words in the English language.
Romney needs to keep repeating the truth: Obama’s foreign policy is a failure, and Obama’s economic policy is a failure. In order to stay on message without boring prospective voters, Romney should hold a contest among his speechwriters to come up with the best, most vital ways of getting those truths across to the public.
So far, the most effective portrayal of Obama has come from Clint Eastwood with his Obama-equals-an-empty-chair accusation. Mitt needs to hire better speechwriters if they can’t compete with a non-political professional.
See post #27 .....
Romney’s being racist. < /s>
We’ve gone full circle !! Obama has now matched every one of Carter’s epic failures. We have double digit inflation on our food and gas (not double digit interest rates on our money though). We have double digit unemployment. We spent a fortune pushing “green” energy schemes that failed and now Obama has helped an islamic revolution push out a leader that was far from perfect but the US could control and been rewarded for it with the death of our citizens and the overrunning of our embassy. This guy really is the reincarnation of Jimmy Carter.
