KFCs in Houston are now serving meat slaughtered under Sharia Law. The practice of Halal is said to be a much slower, calmer process which begins with a prayer for the animal.
Some say this discriminates against non-Muslims. But Paul Shapiro, Vice President for Farm Animal Protection at the Humane Society of the U.S. simply calls it inhumane.
"Animals have their throats cut without being rendered unconscious prior to the cutting," says Shapiro. "That's unlike other types of more conventional slaughter where an effort is supposed to be made to render the animals insensible to pain."
Rasheed Ahmed with the Muslim Consumer Group disagrees, arguing that traditional machine slaughter results in 142 chickens being killed each minute, and asks how is that more humane?
"A requirement for Halal is that the person has to pronounce the name of God," says Ahmed. "There's no chance that God's name is pronounced on each of the 142 chickens."
At least one KFC countertop in Houston displays a letter from the Islamic Society of the Washington Area certifying their chicken from Tyson Foods meets Halal requirements. However, there are reports that other fast food giants use the process without telling customers.
KFC Corporation, Media Relations representative, Rich Maynard, responded with the following statement:
KFC Corporation does not provide certification that our products meet Halal requirements. The flyer in the Houston restaurant contains an outside organizations representations regarding a suppliers products and practices.
KFC is committed to the well-being and humane treatment of chickens. We buy our quality chickens from the same trusted brands that consumers buy in supermarkets. While we dont own any poultry facilities, we require all of our suppliers to follow welfare guidelines developed by us with leading experts on our Animal Welfare Advisory Council. Poultry processed in the U.S. (for KFC or other restaurants or grocery chains) is stunned and rendered insensible to pain before slaughter.
Neither KFCs parent company Yum! Brands nor Tyson Foods responded to calls seeking comment on this story.
KFC's Original Commercial:
Well here is another one where I will not darken their door anymore. It is my money and I will spend it with whom I want. And I nolonger want to spend it with KFC.
At one time I wanted to move to Shelbyville as it’s the home of my and my wife’s ancestors. Now it’s also the home of Islam in Tennessee. The people there are bowing down to the muslims. People in Bedford County need jobs but we have 700 immigrant muslims working at the processing plant.
We will never go to a fast food joint that’s owned by muslims. And KFC and Taco Bell and Wendy’s are quicking being overtaken by muslims.
I’m afraid we lost this battle long ago. We should have been fighting this 50 years ago instead of allowing ourselves to be forced in the PC crap.
I’ve been to Cairo, and there are a TON of KFC’s there. That was the first thing that jumped out at me as odd...
“Rasheed Ahmed with the Muslim Consumer Group disagrees, arguing that traditional machine slaughter results in 142 chickens being killed each minute, and asks how is that more humane?”
Because, idiot mohammedan scum, the killing process is quick.
KFC might want to consider that there are some who won't eat food offered to a demon.
That is not humane. It’s grossly atavistic and tortuous.
When I was kid we raised rabbits, chickens, goats, and pigs.
I tell you we gave thanks to God for them little critters before we slaughtered and were about as humane as you can get.
Chickens? Wrench them by their quickly and be done with.
Rabbits? Hold them by their hindquarters, so they are upside down and pet them until they are calm, then have someone(my brothers) whack in the back of the head HARD. Like home run hard.
They will be dead and then you hang them by their hind quarters and lead the blood drain from them.
Cows, Pigs and Goats. Bullet to the head always worked, everytime.
I can’t think of a more humane way than to just be done with it. Little to no suffering for the animal and less stress for us.
Fire up the BarbeQue Mom...and don’t worry lil sis, you’ll have a nice pair of gloves in a few weeks after we finish tanning.
Does the Wendy’s in Shelyville sell the Baconator?
Pretty hard to get past the addictive chemical that makes ya crrave it fortnightly.
Then why doesn’t KFC remove the third party certification they proudly display?
Even if they eat pork by mistake (which is easy to do here in the US) as long as they don't do it willingly they get a pass.
Only the real anal ones will only eat halal. It's almost the same as the Jewish kosher. In practice its all about letting the blood drain.
Hunters do the same thing with deer.
Call them and ask
Another reason why to never buy Tyson products.
The first reason I have is that he bankrolled Bill Clinton in the early years.
Look where that got us!!!
If you see Halaal at the supermarket, do not forgot to mix a few hamhocks and pork chops with it
As soon as I got big enough to swing an axe, growing up, I was in charge of killing chickens. I fail to see anything religious, respectful, efficient, humane or anything else touchyfeely about killing a chicken or any other food animal slowly. The only thing I ever called before swinging was my old dog who loved chicken heads. He’d get the heads, down them in about three crunches, and be waiting for me to chop the next one. But then my Chickasaw Gramma would get jealous of the dog having all the fun and beg me to save a bowl full for her. She’d entertain herself for about a week making chicken head soup. The only thing religious about that was she lived by “waste not, want not” and she even saved the head feathers.————————————————But I haven’t been a big chicken eating fan for a long time and if I cared I’d figure out a way to make sure the KFC deep fryer was filled with bacon fat——it’s the least we should do for those 12th century sister bangin’ goat sucking muzzies who love western stuff but can’t get out of their own ditch.
I haven’t been there in a few years. But I don’t eat at Wendy’s. Too many are owned by muslims. I don’t want to eat food that they touch. I also don’t buy Tyson’s chicken.
Tyson Foods. Check.
YUM! Brands. Check.
Thanks for the heads up.
Oh, right. They don't. It's ALL Halal.
Will have to look into where Chik-Fil-A gets its product.
