Snip: The airline plans to eliminate 993 out of 5,150 maintenance jobs in Tulsa. In 2010, the airline closed a Kansas City, Mo., maintenance facility that it acquired in the 2001 purchase of bankrupt TWA.
Separately, the union for American Airlines flight attendants said 901 of its members have signed up to get payments of $40,000 apiece for quitting their jobs at the financially troubled company so far.

I wonder if they’re moving the maintenance facility to Central America?
I guess this is what happens when the government stops helping them build their business.................../mega sarc
Ah, yet another “Recovery Summer.”
I have a feeling that any American business thinking of Going Galt is going to do it in the next 4 or 5 weeks.
My Hometown
Bruce Springsteen
I was eight years old and running with a dime in my hand
Into the bus stop to pick up a paper for my old man
I’d sit on his lap in that big old Buick and steer as we drove through town
He’d tousle my hair and say son take a good look around this is your hometown
This is your hometown
This is your hometown
This is your hometown
In ‘65 tension was running high at my high school
There was a lot of fights between the black and white
There was nothing you could do
Two cars at a light on a Saturday night in the back seat there was a gun
Words were passed in a shotgun blast
Troubled times had come to my hometown
My hometown
My hometown
My hometown
Now Main Street’s whitewashed windows and vacant stores
Seems like there ain’t nobody wants to come down here no more
They’re closing down the textile mill across the railroad tracks
Foreman says these jobs are going boys and they ain’t coming back to your hometown
Your hometown
Your hometown
Your hometown
Last night me and Kate we laid in bed
talking about getting out
Packing up our bags maybe heading south
I’m thirty-five we got a boy of our own now
Last night I sat him up behind the wheel and said son take a good look around
This is your hometown
Outrageous.
When the bean counters took over GTE, they decided preventative maintenance was a waste of time and money, no need to fix anything until it actually broken...
Or perhaps Pakistan? I'm sure they would love to perform the maintenance on some of our airplanes.
With the addition of TSA and outsourcing of aircraft maintenance to other countries makes me want to run to the nearest airport and fly off somewhere. /s
The recent bad news coming out of AA breaks my heart. I grew up in the 50’s, my father worked for AA. Many years on the ticket counter at National, then transferred to Dulles when it opened. The days when men wore suits and women wore hats and gloves when they flew. Now, most of the passengers dress like OWS types. I know he wept in Heaven when two of his planes were used as murder bombs. I’m glad my Dad is gone, and doesn’t have to see what has become of this once great airline.
Oh yea, the lounge in the “hump” of the 747. Some had pianos as I recall.
Wow I didn’t know they had pianos!
Much simpler times. How I wish America could return to...
Nice!!!!!
You gave to dress like an OWS turd. Dress nicely and you will go to secondary. The last seat I was crammed into on an AA flight looked like it had last been cleaned in the Bush Administration (Geo HW not Geo w). The parents of the 18 month old next to me did not bring food, drink or a spare diaper for their child or I would have been tempted to somehow rig ear plugs as the brat screamed until dropping off 30 seconds before the pilot came on to tell us we were descending. I was lucky that I did not have to visit the flying septic system on this trip. Anyone who dresses above very casual is just going to extra effort that will come to naught by the time you deplane.
