With unemployment still over 8 percent, household income continuing to fall and trillion-dollar deficits stretching out as far as the eye can see, the 2012 presidential race shouldnt even be close. In fact, economic-based political models suggest that Mitt Romney ought to be strolling to an easy victory.
And yet Romney is losing. When your campaign pollster is forced to release an OK, Nobody Panic! memo, as Neil Newhouse did today, its never a good sign.
The same is true of the race to control the U.S. Senate. Of the 33 seats being contested this year, only 10 are held by the Republicans. That means that going into this election cycle, the GOP had 23 chances to pick up the four additional seats they need to claim a Senate majority. Given the publics deep disenchantment with Congress and the willingness of wealthy conservatives to pump big money into those races, the GOP had every reason to be confident that Mitch McConnell would replace Harry Reid as Senate majority leader come January.
And yet that dream may also be slipping away.

Is Romney really losing when he polls 1-3 pts behind Obama during Obama’s post convention dead cat bounce in polls that oversample Dems by 4-6 pts?
Of course, historically, the polls haven’t meant a thing at this point in the race against an unpopular incumbent.
Seriously, is he losing? Or is Bookman just suffering some cognitive dissonance because he can see the reasons that Romney is actually winning, but can’t bring himself to realize that The One is going to lose?
And bear in mind that Obama’s outspent his fundraising on petty, easily disproved ads while Romney’s amassed a huge amount of cash and is about to spend it.
That is true, and that would be a great thing for R/R to include in their interviews. This wonderful safety net will not be there if we don’t get government spending under control.
Of those on government checks, it is not just moochers. Some need help, others are on social security, which they paid for. Others are on disability or unemployment and not happy about it. Then, there is a huge chunk of people milking the system.
We know we won’t get the votes of the later group, but we can get the majority of every other group. If the economy implodes, the safety net is going to be gone. The Dem/media are going to pretend all is peachy keen and just scare people about everything being taken away. The fact is, endless government is the only thing that threatens the real safety net. No one is talking about ending or cutting any legitimate aid. We need to a growth economy to reduce independence from the government, we need to clean up the waste, and we need to change the 50 year old Medicare program and 80 year old social security program so that it survives and doesn’t bankrupt the country. We need to get back to being aggressive on these issues, and get off the defensive.
And by November it should be 60%. See no reason to believe that Romney will win. The GOP is letting us down with a plan of attack that is old and worn out. Unless a fire is lit under Romney and his Pac to attack King Obama we are in trouble.
Romney was chosen by the MSM and Soros and the
DNC because he would depress the vote,
would not adopt a conservative plank and therefore
could probably not win, even BEFORE
he re-adopted this week his hated RomneyCARE.
America will not vote lightly
for the originator of ObamaCARE
when 80% despise it.
Even Massachusetts will not
go for Romney.
The MSM and Soros and the DNC
were wiser than than the GOP in picking Romney.
I marvel that anyone thinks that ballots will affect a Marxist Regime and that somehow, this election is going to be open, honest and of respect to the rule of law and the Constitution, when this regime have already shown the exact opposite.
But that's what cognitive dissonance does.
No one is willing to ask the question: why does the media and Obama essentially act as though Obama has already won?
The answer is found in the history of every Marxist and Marxist regime that has achieved the same level of power that Obama has.
Ballots are not gonna save us. Prevents a people from looking at the true and hard reality they are faced with - because as scripture says of this generation - they would rather believe a lie and enjoy the comfort of it.
The headline is misleading and in a meaningful way.
He writes, “Romney should be winning...”.
Winning? That is the wrong word. There is only one contest and it occurs on election day. What we have to date is polls. The polls are run by various organizations and are not votes cast by citizens. Obviously.
You probably saw the recent articles that showed that at the same time back in 1980, Carter was up by 4% over Reagan. Reagan won by 9% and took 44 states.
So, Mr. Bookman, the question is not “Why isn’t Romney winning?”. The question is why do the polls always favor liberals;)
The sleeping giant has awakened.
Because elections are not a gradual thing like a baseball or football season. Elections will occur on November 6 and once the votes are counted, we'll know who the winner is. The goofyass "polls" are all over the place and really don't mean anything. Right now, these "polls" are being used by Barry's state controlled "media" as a way to swing the voters over to their "messiah". The author needs to lighten up and shouldn't get excited. These "polls" didn't get 2010 right. What would make them right this time? This is the Error of Obama. EVERYTHING that happens is "unexpected". Barry is going to get his ass "unexpectedly" kicked in November. Americans are fed up. IMHO.
The 2Ø12 team thanks you for your support
Why? Because it is all about who counts (or reports) the votes.
That’s what I think myself, but we seem to be outnumbered on this thread. I did like one of the comments at the AJC, though, and I think it’s revealing. The guy asked if anybody had seen Romney/Ryan stickers on cars. I haven’t, and I live in a town where EVERYBODY votes GOP and a state where nearly everybody does. Yet the only stickers around are Obama-2012, mainly on cars driven by black people or hippies with Co-Exist signs tattooed on their foreheads.
He’s talking in numbers rather than getting the voter personally connected and involved.
Just today I saw a news clip where he was using a Ross Perot numbers board to explain things.
This not encouraging.
1)Welfare state
2) Illegal aliens illegally voting
3) No-cost propaganda arm (CNN, NBC, ABC)
These are the three reasons. Take this election back in time, and Romney would win win by 20 points. Dems are cheating more than usual.
Republicans don't tend to vandalize cars.
I believe he is not winning because he has failed to set the context for the election. I believe it the wrong approach to say that the contest is over jobs. I believe the contest is over the survival of the country. That means the survival of the country free of the specter we all know from The Grapes of Wrath.
All we hold dear will be destroyed if our fiscal house is not brought under control. Obama will wreck the country financially, legally, morally, and as a civil society. Obama has not failed because he is a nice guy who has been ill advised, Obama has failed because he is a radical redistributionist, a Marxist who wants to "transform" our system at any cost. He is an ideologue who believes in breaking as many eggs as necessary to make his omelette.
I know that Romney has been advised by his experts who are privy to very expensive data accrued from focus groups and insider polling which tell them that the election will be decided by independents and independents will decide against the candidate who causes discord.
One has only to look at recent polling numbers to see that that evidently is not the case. Obama has lied his way from beginning to end in this election and he has disparaged Romney with the most palpably absurd charges without any evident "blowback."
Yes, we know that Obama has been shielded from justifiable criticism by virtue of his skin color and we know that he has a lot of downfield blockers in the media. So Obama can get away with much that Romney should not dare. But Romney could have fielded an array of effective surrogates who could make the damning case against Obama.
Where are they?
Here on the west side of Cincinnati I have yet to see an Odogeatter yard sign, meanwhile i drive by dozens and dozens and see more every day.
I do not believe the oversampled polls. I know quite a few Odogeater 2008 voters (”I am not a racist, I voted for 0” voters) who will not be voting for him this time around while I know no McLame voters who will be voting for the dog eater this time.
1) We are a corrupt, ignorant and decadent people who have managed to squander almost everything that has been bequeathed to us.
2) Mittens is a weak candidate with few convictions other than that he should be president and whose brain trust is made up of Massachusetts insiders.
Exactly. The takers will soon out number the makers. That is why we are screwed no matter who wins.
