It was a few weeks after Palin joined the ticket and then the implosion on Wall Street occurred, I believe on Sept. 18.
McCain suspended campaigning and rushed back to Washington to "help" manage the crisis. Obama then had the best line of the whole campaign, when he said he would not suspend campaigning since a president should be able to do more than one thing at a time. After that McCain lost the lead in the polls and never regained them.
To say the polls were bogus is a complete lie. McCain was behind from mid September to election day, so I would say the polls were quite accurate.
I still believe that McCain would have won the election had he opposed TARP rather than suspend his campaign so help push it through.
But then again, a McCain who opposed TARP wouldn’t be McCain.
Close. Lehman collapsed on September 14th. that was his high point on Intrade. His chances went down almost exactly in tandem with the collapse in the markets.
Oops. It was September 15th when they filed.
