President Barack Obama, picking up support following the Democratic National Convention, widened his narrow lead over Republican U.S. presidential challenger Mitt Romney in a new Reuters/Ipsos poll released on Saturday.
The latest daily tracking poll showed Obama, a Democrat, with a lead of 4 percentage points over Romney. Forty-seven percent of 1,457 likely voters surveyed online over the previous four days said they would vote for Obama if the November 6 elections were held today, compared with 43 percent for Romney.
“The bump is actually happening. I know there was some debate whether it would happen… but it’s here,” said Ipsos pollster Julia Clark, referring to the “bounce” in support that many presidential candidates enjoy after nominating conventions.
Obama had leapfrogged Romney in the daily tracking poll on Friday with a lead of 46 percent to 44 percent.
The president’s lead comes despite a mixed reaction to his convention speech on Thursday night in Charlotte, North Carolina, and Friday’s government data showing that jobs growth slowed sharply last month. [Read more from this story HERE].

Sure! I stole it, why shouldn’t you???!? :)
Thanks! :)
The only thing that matter is the electoral college, not the popular vote OR the polls. Civil War III will start if 0bama wins popular vote and Romney wins electoral college, however. Imagine Bush vs. Gore but Gore is black.
I don't think so.
I'm reading too many posts claiming Romney's got to get tough, mean, down-and-dirty, etc.
We've tried to show what a disaster Obama has been, but people obviously aren't listening. It's just like the response to the war in Afghanistan--16 of our best and brightest killed and it gets a paragraph or two's notice--and even that's ignored. I could go on--Solyndra, inflation, fuel prices, Fast and Furious, the justice department-- all ignored.
Harping on these things will not get Romney elected. Ryan and Romney are campaigning hard and telling people what's wrong, but they're spinning their wheels.
They have to inspire--evoke in people's imagination the future he wants them to have. That's why McCain lost and why W was so reviled, neither could inspire. Reagan, on the other hand, did inspire and even Democrats look back in admiration.
Maybe they think this ain't their style, or want to keep the discourse at some pragmatic level, more head than heart. But if that's the case, he'd better change his style, elections are more heart than head.
I've got this sinking feeling that if they don't change course, inertia will keep Obama in power.
There may be one ray of hope. Maybe we shouldn't count on the Republicans but on the Democrats--especially the Clinton faction.
I would think that quite a few of our little uninformed Americans who “don’t pay taxes” don’t even know that. Because money is taken from the paychecks, they may not even associate the February and March “refunds” as that money taken from them the previous year. Most of what they pay is into Social Security any way. They may not see a connection and still think they are “taxpayers.” One can never underestimate the lack of knowledge of the American people.
We’ve been told to avoid social issues...that we should “stay on message”......that it was “all about the economy,Stupid”...
Now after a convention about nothing but abortion, gay “marriage”,and birth control,we find ourselves losing??????
Me? I hope they clone Pinochet for 2016.
"Its a ONLINE POLL run by a British left wing news site ! Pure Spin cooked for Dear Leader. its part of the coordinated - its all over Axelrod PR campaign kicked off this weekend with the Obama state media !"
Good points.
Axelrod & Co. pushed out this poll right after the horrible jobs numbers came out to change the subject. (And now of course, they want to push this meme that Obozo's re-election is "inevitable"). There is very little substance here.
Can you imagine if BO were white? I mean lets face it, his skin color is keeping this close. Along with Romney being very cold and unlikeable.
be sure to thank your lovely fellow freepers if obammey wins....you know the ones....their so much betttttter than the rest of us....
be gone you dummie troll.....we figured out your act long ago...
Yeah. "I've got my Obama Phone, I got my unemployment extended, I've got my food stamp card and a place to cash it, I've got my welfare payments, and I got my money-house payment for my vote, and my ward boss got the burglary charges dropped. Life is good."
Yes, it can:
Pinochet? Suharto. Pinochet didn't get it done -- look at the little Red b*stards putting him on trial for his life. Same with the Argentine generals.
You mean Suharto. No PKI scum are putting anyone on trial in Indonesia. Their bones are all at the bottom of the Andaman Sea.
Yeah, Republican conservatives get lectures about economics and "good government" being the winning ticket .... and then the Democrats practically wear themselves out ranting about gay this and gay that, abort abort abort, just a whole galaxy of left-wing social-issue battle cries. And "our side" refuses to answer, even with the Dims leading with their chins on these issues? Since when?
Remember how Dubya and Rove beat Kerry to death in 2004 by putting DOMA issues on state ballots in the battleground States. They got the conservatives to the polls and squashed Kerry like an overripe "honeydew" melon. But it helped that Kerry was such a "charlie-boy" and "Terrraaayyza" was so dislikable.
“”Lets do something meaningful in 2016. We can hang on.””
The GOP candidate in 2016 will be to the left of Romney 2012. I’ve stated my reasons why there will be no “true conservative” even if it’s Sarah Palin.
Obamacare will be impossible to repeal by Jan 2017. In fact the election will settle the obamacare debate. If obama wins, congress will fully fund it. In fact it is the Dems who will push to repeal and reace obamacare with something else......single payer.
Amnesty will happen. That’s 12 million new dem voters by 2016
A Roe type ruling on gay marriage will extinguish any real remaining opposition.
So keep thinking we can hang on until 2016. But ask yourself if Romney being a bad candidate alone is the reason Obama is winning or is it the country is now far left?
“In the first place, most Americans DONT believe Obama is a Marxist or has Marxist sympathies...”
////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
A large percentage and it may even be a majority would not recognize the name of Marx aside from thinking it refers to a comedian.
I am.. I fear it's going to take a near-miracle for Romney to win, and I'm definitely praying for it.
I think it's not so much "happy" with it, but accepting of it all as the "new normal," and they're resigning themselves to stay with the devil they know.
