Newt was very good on Crowley’s show. He got one good jab in at the end if she was going to ax Dems if they will work with Romney if he wins. Well done.

I just learned (or was reminded) that one community organizer named Barack Obama led the lawsuit against Chicago banks which resulted in this mess. His suit forced them to make loans to people who lkely couldn’t pay for it. Mid- 90’s, probably just preceding Clinton’s revival of the initiative.

Not to mention, as Dick Morris says, independent voters tend to go for the challenger at the end. Meaning, close in the polls is good for R/R.

In all sincerity thanks so much for the charts. (They added to my ignorance in ways that can’t be MEASURED.)

I would ask, though:

If someone was disabled how did they get in the “workforce” in the first place? When the phrase “dropped out of the workforce” is used by the media, it is implied that the act was voluntary. Like, “Bought a new computer online.”

—Transitive verb linked to specific subject (person—many persons really) who nevertheless can’t be found while Dems are in office.—

Did the people actually THINK they could work and then somebody said they can’t and ONLY THEN did they actively and with forethought “drop out of the workforce?”

And if they DID work how come they can’t again? What is so disabling that they not only DON’T have a job but CAN’T be listed as someone who MIGHT have a job?

Are you by any chance saying they are slackers who simply don’t WANT to work and have found they can get SSI instead? (You know, I’m trying to think highly of these people who “dropped out of the workforce” but...)

How are such people IN the “unemployment rate” one day and gone the next if this is true? And why aren’t they called “Slackers” instead of people who “dropped out of the workforce”—??

You know, I will say this—

I can understand why the media would have a hard time finding Slackers. (Does this make me a bad person?)

Yep.

Switching to CBS, Obama is on with Scott Pelley. says you can’t reduce the defecit without a balanced approach - reduce spending AND increase taxes. He and Romney should pay more (hey, noone’s stopping you, obama)

Says he is willing to make adjustments to Medicare and Medicaid

Oh, this is promo for tonight. Nora O’Donnell (can’t stand her) with Paul Ryan. Says he’d be happy to work with obama but obama won’t do the same.

Jobs report on Friday - for every person that got a job, four were lost.

Ryan talking about tax reforms - close loopholes for higher income earners.

This came up first in the Bing Google search, and it works just as well as any other:

To calculate the unemployment rate for a particular area or region, you will need to know the number of unemployed workers and the total number of people in the labor force in the particular area (such as a state or country). In the United States, this data is available from the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Labor Force refers to the number of people of working age and below retirement age who are actively participating in the work force or are actively seeking employment. Note that the total population of the area or region is irrelevant when calculating the unemployment rate.

Read more: How to Calculate Unemployment Rate | eHow.com http://www.ehow.com/how_4621309_calculate-unemployment-rate.html#ixzz25ywL3oUi

What that all means in relation to your questions is:

1. Yes, a new job is a job that did not exist before. So if 368,000 people apply for unemployment in a week and 378,000 new jobs are created (people are hired who didn’t work there before) that means a net increase of 10,000 jobs in the economy.

Of course, if a construction worker loses a $60,000 per year job and 2 people get $10/hr jobs asking if you want fries with that, that is a net addition of 1 new job in the work force.

The BLS (Bureau of Labor Statistics) has a large army of experts who scientifically calculate exactly what they don’t know (to 3 or 4 decimal places) and they calculate several different definitions of “unemployment”. The one we hear about most is U6, which uses a denominator of “work force” and a numerator of “workers” to calculate the percentage of work force working. The difference is the unemployment rate.

So if you have about 111,000,000 people working in America and the number goes up 96,000 in a month to 111,096,000, that is a net creation of jobs. BUT, if the number of people in the work force drops by 368,000 from 121,000,000 to 120,632,000, then the decrease in the denominator makes the percentage look better.

And the 368,000 people who no longer count as unemployed no longer count because their benefits have run out, so they cease to exist in the BLS calculation. Unlike Chicago voters after they die, the BLS considers people who drop out of the work force to be not in the work force.

Now, if the drop outs decide to start looking again, they get added back to the denominator. And how they get added back is based on some complicated rules the counters at BLS use to determine who is in the work force and who is just dabbling. To make it even worse, very little of what the BLS does is based on hard numbers. Mostly it is based on voluntary survey participation, random phone calls, whether or not Joe Biden saw his shadow this morning, and any number of scientific confounders to make the final number impossible to dispute or prove.

That’s why the government workers who do this make so much money.

Wow.

CBS, Nora asks about Romney’s comments on the automatic defense cuts agreed to last year. Ryan says he voted for a mechanism to make cuts for the spending increases. House voted to cut spending elsewhere in Washington to offset those defense cuts. pres has done nothing. senate has done nothing. it’s stuck in house.

THIS WEEK (ABC): Know-it-all Panel

Cokie Roberts, Corey Booker, Paul Krugman left George Stephenopolis all in smiles, especially since Rand Paul and George Will were ineffective in countering or getting a word in edgewise.

All Romney has to do is reference the data, real wages went down under the Clinton tax hikes, and the biggest rise in GDP and real wages went back up after the tax cuts. Then ask Obama to explain how he and his economic team team came to the conclusion it was Clinton's tax increases that improved the economy?

Here's the data;

text describing the image

Another projection, Paul Ryan has been actually dealing with the details to present a detailed budget, while Democrats clearly don't know the details of what policies significantly improved the economy.

Obama couldn't even manage the details of cutting the expenses he promised when he said he would cut the deficit in half, yet this panel thinks he can and has managed the economy for the better...just don't look at the details...

Cokie Roberts knows all the details of the polls in Obama’s favor. Mitt Romney might not sober her up before November.

OMGosh, I can't believe my eyes and ears. Norah Dunne is a raging, royal witch. A crazy one, too. The expression on her face is that of a left wing, radical nutcase, and the “Bride of Frankenstein” eye makeup gives a bizarre touch.

Ryan held his own and looked sane and smart. He did a wonderful job with that loony witch.
