Mitt Romney weighed in for the first time on the Democratic platform initially removing the word “God," saying that was something he would never do.
Romney began a campaign appearance in Virginia Beach, Va. on Saturday by reciting the Pledge of Allegiance before turning to the platform controversy.
“That pledge says “under God,” and I will not take God out of our platform,” Romney said to cheers. “I will not take God off our coins, and I will not take God out of my heart.”
During their convention in Charlotte, the Democrats' platform was changed from 2008 to remove references to God. But after criticism, party leaders decided Wednesday to put God back into their platform — but not before one of the most awkward moments of their convention.
The Democrats proposed an amendment both to reinsert God and a clause stating Jerusalem was the capital of Israel — which also was criticized after it was removed — but it took the Democrats three voice votes to actually approve the change, as the “yay” votes were met with near equal opposition with loud “nos” and some boos. The president's campaign said Obama called for “God” and “Jerusalem” to be re-inserted into the platform when he learned they had been removed.
On Saturday the Obama campaign called Romney's comments divisive and untrue.
“It’s disappointing to see Mitt Romney try to throw a Hail Mary by launching extreme and untrue attacks against the President and associating with some of the most strident and divisive voices in the Republican Party, including Rep. Steve King and Pat Robertson," Obama campaign spokeswoman Lis Smith said in a statement. In his campaign speech in Virginia, a military-heavy state that’s a big battleground, Romney also focused on defense issues and the impending sequestration cuts.
Romney touted his plan to boost shipbuilding and to roll back the reduction of 100,000 service members that are included in the Pentagon’s 2013 budget, which starts a 10-year $487 billion reduction.
“I will not cut our military. I will maintain our military commitment,” Romney said.
The GOP nominee also declared that he would not allow the sequestration cuts to occur, although they are currently law and would take effect Jan. 2, three weeks before Romney would be sworn into office.
Romney criticized President Obama for sequestration, touting a detail from Bob Woodward’s new book on the debt-limit negotiations that says the White House came up with the idea.
Romney cited industry studies that say the sequestration cuts, which would reduce the defense budget by $492 billion over the next decade, would cost Virginia between 100,000 and 200,000 jobs.
Both Republicans and Democrats, including Obama, do not want the sequestration cuts to occur, but the two parties are deadlocked over how to replace the sequestration cuts.
Sequestration, which was included in the 2011 Budget Control Act approved by Congress and signed by the president, became law when the supercommittee failed last November to agree on a deficit-reduction plan.
The issue has spilled into the campaign — particularly in states like Virginia — with Romney and Republicans blaming Obama for the potential cuts. Obama has responded by accusing Republicans of allowing the military cuts to occur in order to protect tax cuts for the wealthy.
The LDS is officially a lot of things that scads of Mormons don’t actually follow along with.

I see too many regulations against production from every level of government, from NGOs and individuals behind government, and have doubts that any likely political changes will stop the default process caused by favored constituencies getting what they demand (big spending on regulations, social pushes and debt flows). So I see a rare opportunity to see the political/regulator class fall from leadership for lack of revenues.
Maybe several presidents have unwittingly (and some maybe wittingly) helped us on the way to small government: bond collapse, default, repudiation and currency adjustment. Without valuable revenues from manufacturing, regulations and social efforts against small manufacturing operations and families will be unenforced and maybe, eventually abolished.
I don’t see any political solution to economic problems or social diseases. Our country is too mobbed-up by the unproductive and counterproductive, IMO, and many members of the mob are well paid from debt to prevent production.

I think we can all agree that Romney wasnt our 1st choice. So we can either sit here and bash Romney or we can do everything in our power to make sure the Kenyan doesnt get a second term.
Mitt is a true and dedicated Mormon, and you need to quit lying about that.
Mitt did not earn his position and power with the religion, and the approval of the Qurom of 70, and the personal, in person approval of his Pope, for this presidential run, by not being a good and faithful Mormon, in fact, a Temple Mormon.
He has grown as a person, he has convictions otherwise he wouldn’t have been successful, that Flip flopper comment is planted by the DNC who has been trying to destroy Romney for the last 4 years. Romney has evolved, he stuck to his guns and was a good Governor, he had a very good record, and was successful as a Governor, and he didn’t take a paycheck for his service either. That doesn’t sound like a flip flopper, that sounds like someone with very strong beliefs and character. But don’t let that stop you with your Anti-Romney-DNC propoganda. ````
That’s all they can do is whine. They never say for whom they want win only for whom they are against. They do this every election cycle, in fact most of them rarely post, and only during the election and complain about the GOP nominee.
Or we can face the fact that we’re headed towards subjugation and/or CWII no matter what and start thinking about how we’re going to handle that.

They are a cult, and they are fluid and legalistic at the same time, difficult to pin down because their goal is not purity with God, or true understanding of his words, their goal is to win numbers and income, and power through gaining members.
Romney is a true and devoted Mormon, a stellar Mormon.
Here he tells a more simple person that they are mistaken about the church’s position on abortion, and Mitt is correct in this exchange, this is a good cult member in action.

Governor Mitt Romney: I’m proud of my faith. There is nothing I distance myself from. There are Mormons in the leadership of my Church who are pro-choice, and they do not violate that. Your not a lawyer, but you have to read that a little bit more carefully.”
Call it flip flopping or "evolving", but 2 weeks ago he went back to being pro-abortion.
And so, this means that Mitt could take many a tack and still call himself “Mormon.” Being a people pleasing mush is not at all in logical discord with that.

No, I keep trying to explain to you that Bishop Romney, son of a Bishop, and the patriarch of 170 years of Mormon royalty, is a very devout, devoted, and respected Mormon, absolutely true to his cult and it’s teachings.
Mitt is following Mormon teachings on abortion, he always has.
Can you find a coherent teaching to present as globally representative of Mormon policy? I say you cannot. To further flummox the situation, the LDS in Salt Lake City always seem to get officially updates from their “god” when convenient to get them out of embarrassing situations.
And my point is, Mitt could do jolly well whatever he wished about abortion and find something in LDS policy, or wangle a divine update, to cover for it.
This is a far cry from any proof or demonstration that the LDS is the tail that wags his dog in a definite direction.
This leaves the situation the same as I said. Mitt can be publicly pressured into doing just about anything, and he’d never ever say it was being un-Mormon.
