Hes in a money crunch:
Todd Akins TV ads are, reportedly, being yanked from stations across the state because his campaign isnt paying the bills. KOMU-TV in Columbia says it received half of the payment for an ad buy, and when it didnt get the other half, it cancelled the rest of the ads. The station says its confirmed that other stations from St. Louis to Kansas City have been put in the same position.
McCaskill, meanwhile, is running positive ads about how moderate she is. I imagine the tone of the race will change markedly if Akin stays in past the deadline for him to get out.
Your post is the fairest summary of the event that I have seen.
Thank you for your encouraging words. I speak from my personal experiences.
I was a volunteer for the Enz campaign and I was at her campaign office the morning the KMOX reporter was there. I know the listener who received the crude email from Jaco.
I watched the Akin interview and was relieved that Jaco didnt appear to lambast Akin as I suspected he would. I was appalled when I later saw reports of how Akins words were distorted by naysayers and used to vilify him.
I don’t know Akin personally but its obvious that the Republican Party has attempted to oust Akin because he’s a man of principle and faith and does not kowtow to their edicts. Anyone with an ounce of common sense can see that they are willing to condemn Akin’s political career in order to replace him with someone who will be in lockstep with their agenda to achieve power.
Those who are railing against Akin are either more Republican than Conservative OR they lack discernment and the intellect to think for themselves.
How tragic that if Romney wins, we still lose the Senate and the entire Repub agenda because of one stupid man like Akin.
McCaskill is a skilled politician. Most Missourians view her as a moderate despite her extremist voting record.
If Akin can manage to make the discussion about Obamacare, he can win the election. But the Missouri press won’t help him and he has -$3,000. You can’t buy many ads with -$3,000.
MOST women don’t get pregnant EVERY time they have sex. MOST women who are raped DONT get pregnant. Find out the facts AGAIN!
Missouri is a swing state. Kansas City and St louis are the dem havens, as with most cities. They voted in McKill and the grand zero. I was devastated. It’s just like living in pennsylvania with pittsburgh and philthadelphia (minus the history).
National Review which threw in the towel on culture years ago wants Akin out
as Joe Wilson says...”They Lie”
they did this to Newt too
asshats
they and Weekly Standard
By "We" may I assume you mean the party bosses and consultants in Washington, like Karl Rove issuing murder threat jokes, who have more negative things to say about conservative GOP candidates than they do of the opposition???
BTW Welcome to Freerepublic
Since 09-01-2012
Will you be staying past the election???
He didn't say that....he said some women have a tendency for their reproductive system to reject fertilization during traumatic intercourse such as "legitimate rape" based on a study by a Doctor Wilke ...a study of course challenged by pro abortion forces since rape exclusion is a wedge they use to keep infanticide alive
Wilke's study estimates that pregnancies from rape are no more than 2%
The average woman who has non rape intercourse from ages 18-30 with a tadpole laden partner on average 3 times a week has a 25% chance to get pregnant each month
I think he could have expressed himself better no question and would have done best to simply saw that if we don't execute the rapist then why execute the baby?
but the disgusting avalanche heaped upon him by the social moderates on our side was quite telling
and remains so
conservatism is about truth and accuracy, it's not complicated but it's rarely in evidence much anymore when GOP establishment types are as hysterical as the kooks we just saw in Charlotte
ROTFLMAOPIMP...so now on Free Republic being deep in the Romney camp is considered a good thing?
that is hysterical...I mean really
plenty fine folks were zotted for less a screed than that just 2 months ago
Mitt Romney is a bonafide liberal to moderate jackass who may know a thing or two about finance...that is it and by being that he is preferable to Obama
it is nothing more than that and don't try to make him the second coming like freepers do every flavor of the month that comes along
best thing about Romney is he's not Obama, second best...he nominated Ryan
By “we” I meant the Republican Party. That would include The GOP establishment (RINOs) and the rank-and-file who keep electing candidates in the Primary, who are good people but are not up to the task of winning “The Big One” when the time comes. I hope like everything that Mr. Akin wins. I loathe Claire McCaskill. But, I would not bet my next paycheck on it. Will I be here after the Election? Well, I’ll wait and see how lively the place is after the Election. I’m a political junkie. If the place is “jumping” I’ll be here. If it’s dead, I’ll go back to playing Solitaire on line. (Smiling)
The accusation is true. I have no intention of backing down from it nor apologizing for it.
Allow me to lump all Akintards into one broad category. Collectively, slime like you have argued the following...
a. Akin was correct in what he said. He has nothing to apologize for.
b. Akin apologized. Let’s move on.
c. Akin did nothing wrong/said nothing wrong. Any problems are solely the fault of the “GOP establishment”.
So, what will be the next official line from you guys? Or will you keep spitting out the same excuses - like the ones I’ve mentioned above?
I don’t believe he’ll win in November. He’s still low on cash. And no, not all of the polls show him winning.
As I mentioned in a post about two weeks ago (directed to donozark), Todd Akin is toejam. So are his supporters. They’re the kind of thing I’d find on the bottom of a boot while walking across a hog production facility.
If Akin does lose in November, it certainly wouldn’t be attributed to the candidate or his intelligence-challenged supporters - like you, JediJones, Mike Huckabee, etc. Instead, it’ll be blamed on “RINO’s” like me or the “GOP establishment”.
Having said all that, if I were a Missourian, I’d vote for Akin - solely because McCaskill is a very bad alternative. But if he should drop out, I wouldn’t be in the least bit sorry. In fact, I’d be happy.
In other words, what you’re saying is that whenever the left bombards us with accusations driven by political correctness, we should join them in the assault against our own.
If I meant to say that I would’ve said that.
If I was being uncharitable towards your position, I’d make a mockery of it like you did. I.e., “so we can just run stupid people who can’t talk as long as they have principles?”
The Biblical admonition for the Rev. Akin is to be as wise as a serpent and as harmless as a dove. I think he failed in that. We’re not going to get the rules changed for us. And we don’t have to change our positions. But we have to be smart enough to communicate them.
Let’s be clear. The interviewer is a known quantity here in St. Louis. He’s somewhere to the left of Stalin. He’s had frequent almost violent confrontations with Tea Partiers. For Akin to walk into that interview without a good answer for the abortion question he had to know was coming is simply inexcusable for a career politician. No ifs, ands, or buts.
If I recall correctly, it was in the open preliminaries that the REPUBLICANS were told to vote democrat to get rid of Hillary. The Hillary express by sorry hannity. So until the ridiculous open primary laws are changed, games will be played and the whole nation loses.
Thank you for telling us how you really feel about Akin supporters???
“For Akin to walk into that interview without a good answer for the abortion question he had to know was coming is simply inexcusable for a career politician.”
If Akin wins, your words become meaningless.
The only thing preventing an Akin victory now is conservatives who can’t admit they were wrong, so they unknowingly do the work of the Stalinists.
“I think he could have expressed himself better no question and would have done best to simply saw that if we don’t execute the rapist then why execute the baby?”
That is actually pretty profound. I will remember that one.
I don't care how principled one is, if you don't have money, you will lose. This has nothing to do with whether he has a spine of steel or how much pressure he can take.
First of all, this is not a short term hardship - there are less than 60 days to the election and every day that goes by, there are less undecideds.
I don't mind cheerleaders, but I do mind people who can't objectively measure a situation. I am sympathetic to Akin, and would vote for him if I lived in Missouri, but most voters don't like voting for an idiot. See, other voters think they are principled, too, but may not have the same principles as you.
If Akin wins, it will be in spite of his idiocy.
