Romney, GOP Groups Pull Ads From Michigan and Pennsylvania
Talking Points Memo ^ | 9/6/2012 | Eric Kleefeld

Posted on 09/06/2012 4:24:23 PM PDT by taildragger

Republicans signaled this week that they might have given up hope in two important swing states. TPM Slideshow: Romney Takes The Stage At The RNC

The Romney campaign and conservative groups like Crossroads GPS have pulled TV ads in Michigan, Romney’s home state, according to the Detroit News.

Nor are the campaign and super PACs running advertising in Pennsylvania, after unleashing a barrage there over the past five months.

It is still possible for groups to purchase TV advertising in either state at a later date.

The PollTracker Averages show President Obama ahead 48.9 percent to 45.4 percent in Michigan, and in Pennsylvania, where he leads 49.9 percent to 41.4 percent.

The Detroit News says the other side is not spending money in Michigan either.

Yes I heard that as well...

Don’t buy this crap. Romney is just staying off the air for Dem Convention week. There are already stories that he’s gonna carpet bomb the airways after Friday in all these states. And he’s UP in the last two MI polls, only 4 down in PA, UP in today’s OH poll. What the hell are some of the posters here thinking?

Debunked. The story is misleading. ALL ads EVERYWHERE have stopped during DNC Convention, and there are already stories that there will be a carpet bombing of ads beginning Friday. No one is conceding anything.

RE: Ohio:

Poll: Romney up 3 in Ohio, best showing since June

This is likely to be a statement-making LANDSLIDE.

Dems have not helped themselves this week, what with the stadium down-sizing and general lack of enthusiasm, DWS's lies about Israel, the platform language, the incessant abortion loving.....and now we hear Obie plans no course correction in his second term ?????WFT

You don’t think Virgil could pull a half a percent from Romney?

Romney has done a lot of other things to indicate he is in the FordDoleMcCain mold. I expect a lot more years of Cesar Obama.

Remember when Palin begged McCain and Schmidt to let her go to Michigan and they said no way? This is the same kind of defeatism that infected the GOP back in 2008.

Not ‘debunked’ at all. The story mentions nothing about which states Romney will be advertising in. Perhaps his alleged carpet-bombing ads will run in states such as Michigan, Ohio & Pennsylvanis but we’ll just have to wait and see.

Would it really surprise anyone to see Mitt ‘McCain’ Romney pre-emptively conceding certain states, which the whistling-past-the-graveyard, sour-grapes types on here will claim ‘we don’t need those states anyway’?

If we’re going to win this election we need to fight in the swing states. There’s no reason to waste money in, for example, California, but to give up on Ohio is ridiculous.

Aren’t we being told that Obama is the one who’s running short on cash and that Mittens & the RNC are rolling in dough? Will that cash still be on hand AFTER election day? Will ads finally run in key states only after it’s too late? Bonzo doesn’t need to run ads, he’s got the media to advertise for him 24/7.

We’ll find out just how much the GOP establishment wants to win soon, won’t we?

even sadder when you consider Romney will have 2.5 times as much cash compared to McLame...that said there was a report that Romney has pulled back some commercials during the week of the rats campaign...there’s a thread somewhere on Freep...

Top $$ states should be: VA, OH, FL

Some $$ should go to: MI, NC, CO (MI & NC are almost surely going R -- CO is toss up but at this point can't be a huge spending priority)

Forget: PA (if they're going R, they will, regardless of ads, but I don't see it happening)
