(AP) -- The Secret Service said Wednesday it is investigating the reported theft of copies of Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney's federal tax records during a break-in at an accounting office in Franklin. Someone claiming responsibility demanded $1 million not to make them public.

Anyone smart enough to steal the records would be much better at maximizing the profit. That would not include sending encrypted copies to people with lots of money and/or government connections.
A small, confidential leak of redacted data to each side would have been the most profitable.

I suspect Obama already has copies—Geithner oversees IRS.
If so, they might want to stage a phony break-in before leaking them.
Another possibility is that an employee of PWC is behind this.
I fully expect to see some JonStewart media outlet breaking news before election day with a Romney tax expose. These liberals have invested a whole lot of money in OccupyWallStreet for the sole purpose of defeating Romney in November.
