Everyone who says that we should privatize all education should be forced to spend 2 years in a country without public education. They do exist, but you won’t find a single one with an illiteracy rate that isn’t heartbreaking.

Adult illiteracy in the US is a hotly contested statistic: FWIW the high-end estimates are ~ 1/6 of the population being unable to read at all, and another ~1/6 reading at less than a 4th grade level.

Given the amount of money spent on teachers education unions' pensions, that is pretty heartbreaking.

Legal terminology differs from state to state. For example, in NYS, Rape must involve a penis and vagina, unless it is an issue of a lack of consent due to age. So in NYS, a woman cannot rape a man nor can a man rape a man unless the victim is a minor. It is aggravated sexual abuse. Doesn’t mean its any less serious of a charge. Many of these fell under the “sodomy” definition, but that was all removed from the Penal Code, I believe due to the infamous Texas Sodomy Case that went all the way to the Supreme Court.
