CHARLOTTE, N.C. — For over a year now, the political press has been writing the ever-evolving book on Mitt Romney. But as the Democratic National Convention gets under way in Charlotte, major media outlets are sending President Barack Obama through the spin cycle, lobbing five high-profile bombs at the incumbent in a single holiday weekend.
The New York Times ran a front-page piece Monday with the unmistakable subtext that Obama is a hyper-competitive egotist who often is not as good as he thinks he is at endeavors ranging from politics to poker.

When I first read it, I thought it was a puff piece, too. But then I realized that it actually did show him as a braggart and fantasist who actually thinks his bowling score or golf handicap is as important as the big stuff.
He wants to be popular and “best” at silly things (as if anybody really cared about his bowling!) while bragging and writing off the important things that he simply is too dumb to understand (economics, for example).
I think this is part of the Dems’ attempt to project Obama as somehow so likeable, such a sweet little baby boy who’s trying so hard, that only a meanie wouldn’t vote for him. They obviously can’t present him as a successful President, or even as someone who takes the job very seriously. So instead they’re presenting him as a loveable celebrity.
That said, even while the press is composed of raving leftists, I think the bloom is off Obama for a lot of them, too. Maybe he didn’t accomplish enough of their leftist goals, maybe it’s because he has not treated the press particularly well and has shown the same arrogance with them that he’s shown with others, but I do think he’s becoming less popular among them.
The big act of four years ago is burned out, and the paparazzi of political glitz are lowering the bar, way down on the down low, where Obama’s peeps can identify. After a term of perceived godhood, it is time to drag their idol through the muck of humanity, and call him human. See, he is just a man with faults and warts, and his crap stinks like ours. He is one of us. Vote for him, or we will get those guys who aren’t like us.
Or maybe that isn’t it at all. Obama is just a putz.
Thanks for the link to “Narcissistic Immunity.” This is one of the best explanations of the workings of the narcissistic mind that I have ever read. It did leave me with a knot in the pit of my stomach, though. I sure hope our nation can survive leadership by a mental defective.
I have a different take on this: they are beginning to distance themselves from him and start the argument for the democraps’ loss to Mitt and Paul in that it wasn’t their policies, it was because Obummer was too aloof. The ‘journos’ are starting a CYA.

Time’s Mark Halperin: “With the exception of core Obama administration loyalists, most politically engaged elites have reached the same conclusion: The White House is in over its head, isolated, insular, arrogant and clueless about how to get along with or persuade members of Congress, the media, the business community or working-class voters.”

He recently begged a crowd of black supporters not to “make me look bad” by staying home from the polls. In an interview with Rolling Stone, he scolded young voters that if they don’t vote, it will be proof they “weren’t serious in the first place.”
“You know, I actually believe my own [bull],” Obama told the author of “Renegade,” Richard Wolffe.
“These are just a few head fakes. The media’s soul is possessed by the left. “
Indeed. These articles are nothing more than tepid disclaimers that, despite their understanding of the situation four years ago, they were mistaken: Obama isn’t God after all but is merely Superman.

First, he fantasized about his missing father, making him into a larger than life hero, He has now simply transferred this myth onto his own sense of “self”. In his head, he is the (imaginary) superhero that he pretended his dad was. This may be where that inflated ego came from.
