TAMPA, August 31, 2012, (LifeSiteNews.com) Mitt Romney vetted former Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice as his vice presidential running mate, but turned her down because her pro-choice, pro-homosexual views would split the party, according to media reports.
Condi was fully vetted to become Mitt Romneys running mate, an unnamed campaign source told RadarOnline.com. Romney thought Rice would add foreign policy expertise and he knew she would help with the all important female vote and African American support.
The problem? Condoleeza Rice describes herself as mildly pro-choice, favors some kind of legal recognition for homosexual unions, held a prominent post in the unpopular George W. Bush administration, backs Affirmative Action, and may have voted for Barack Obama in 2008.
Mitts advisers talked him out of it, because Condi is pro-choice and she isnt willing to change her position on the controversial issue, the source said.
These advisers reportedly told the former Massachusetts governor ultra conservative support would immediately be lost if he chose Rice.
That proved to be good advice. After rumors surfaced that Rice had been vetted for veep, values voters sparked a rebellion.
Marjorie Dannenfelser of the Susan B. Anthony List called Rice an unqualified candidate, and Tony Perkins of the Family Research Council described her candidacy as a non-starter. Conservative activist Richard Viguerie encouraged his readers to call the Romney campaign to talk them out of offering Rice the number two spot.
Instead, Romney chose Wisconsin Congressman Paul Ryan, a selection that left many pro-life leaders thrilled.
Rice still graced the platform at the Republican National Convention the same night as John McCain, the 2008 nominee who attempted to dilute the GOPs pro-life plank four years ago.
The former Bush-41 adviser may still harbor political ambitions. According to the source, she is thinking seriously about running for governor of California, where Republicans often hold pro-abortion and pro-homosexual views.
Voting for Willard ???
Nana’s conscience talked her out of it, because Willard is pro-choice and he isnt willing to change his position on the controversial issue, Nana said.
There’s no evidence she voted for Obama, just racist supposition from venomous creatures like yourselves. Keep spreading the lie.
Exactly. She's said she wanted to be neither president or VP and had no interest in running for political office. She said it last week, she said it last spring, she said it years ago when SoS. But that's ok, everyone knows she's been lying all along just like they know how she votes. Idiots.
Unpopular amongst the media and Occupy types.
I knew from the first minute I saw here on television. No big whoop, it was just evident. One knows the type. Not a good idea to run for public office.
saw pictures of him when she worked with GWB...
I don't feel she really wants back in the rat race of politics..
she did a great interview with Greta after her speech and she fully came out and said Obama is not good for this country. and she supports Romney and Ryan 100% she had a real positive attitude..a wonderful, classy very smart woman of color..
bttt
Agreed.
I think that comes fromt the feminist wing who gush over any female in a leadership role.
Newsjunkey has always been a a homo-loving liberal on many issues. Just ignore that creature and maybe it will crawl back under its fecal-stained bedsheets.
“according to media reports.” Well, it must be true then. sarc
She wouldn't have taken the job, doesn't want the job PERIOD!
Which means he is susceptible to pressure to be more pro-life and more conservative. Obama would not be susceptible to any such pressure. They are not the same.
If this provides the rationale to vote for Romney, so be it. But no Pro-Lifer should be convinced that Romney has a Life & Liberty position different from his Mass Gov days. Only his Presidential appointments, bills, and signatures can prove otherwise.
Despite Romney’s record, I will be voting for 3 Republican Houses. Best odds for Life & Liberty.
I agree. But there is also an opposing view that suggests Congress would be more susceptible to Romney’s Liberalism than Obama’s.
The evidence is that she must have been asked the question 1000 times in the press by now. I have heard no statement from Rice to the effect “Vote for Obama? Are you nuts? I’m a Republican. I voted for John McCain. Why would I even consider voting for a Marxist community agitator?”
Maybe she did say that. If so, I must have missed it.
Ryan is an excellent selection. As I’ve said and others have said previously, Romney needed a legislator. Ryan can speak authoritatively about budget and derivatively from that every other important policy domain.
Condi gave a great speech and will probably be involved in the campaign where she can contribute.
“Theres no evidence she voted for Obama, just racist supposition from venomous creatures like yourselves. Keep spreading the lie.”
Liar, there is plenty of evidence she voted for Obama. She never openly admitted to voting for him but she did openly weep in joy when he won the election.
She was celebrating his win because of his skin color, so who’s the racist?
“I don’t feel she really wants back in the rat race of politics”
Has she ever held an elected office?
the Military seems to approve of her as well, she seemed well liked..
I thought she really ROCKED in her speech at the RNC conv. and no teleprompter...just notes..
