CHARLOTTE, N.C. A torrential downpour that struck Charlotte Saturday afternoon damaged the Mount Rushmore-style sand sculpture bust of President Obama an ominous beginning to what many fear is a plagued convention.
Workers were trying Saturday afternoon to reform the base of the sculpture, built from sand brought in from Myrtle Beach, S.C., pounding and smoothing out the sand that had washed off the facade.

Somebody needs to build a giant empty chair made of sand outside the Dem convention, pronto.
If they get more rain that empty chair may be there after all.

Bill Cosby isn’t much of a smiler. It looks like Obama, only he looks psychotic. “Get this man the hell away from the black box” is what this sculpture tells me.

Geesh! That sand sculpture looks like some no-necked moai sculpture stolen from Easter Island. Kinda like when Zero was flinching in the picture as the judo guy got tossed.
Here’s “hope”ing that some serious wind and rain swing through and “change” that sculpture into food for the sandbags. It would be an improvement.

It really is quite large. For a scale reference, those marble benches on the ground in front of it are normal bench height. The pedestal alone is close to twenty feet tall.

I’m just astounded that a colossal sculpture of 0bama was contrived in the first place. What goes through the mind of these people is utterly frightening.

I met a traveller from a southern land
Who said: "I came here to here a man drone
They built a stupid sculpture from some sand,
Half sunk, after thunderstorms broke it down
His wrinkled lip and sneer of cold command
Tell that its sculptor well those passions read
Which yet survive, welfare he still demands,
While the hands that work are the ones that fed.
And on his pedestal these words appear:
`My name, Obama, of the Man's Country:
Look on my works, ye mighty, and despair!'
Nothing beside remains. Round the display
Of that colossal wreck, boundless and bare,
The Myrtle Beach sand was stretched far away".
Apologies to Shelley.
