A growing list of Republicans and conservatives are calling for longtime Republican adviser Karl Rove to step away from GOP campaign efforts after the strategist jested that he might have to murder Rep. Todd Akin, R-Mo.
William Murray, who heads the Government is Not God Political Action Committee and chairs the Religious Freedom Coalition, said today that the comment was so distasteful as to shame the entire Republican Party.
Congressman Akin made a misstatement on the subject of rape and conception for which he apologized, he said. Apparently Karl Rove believes the apology is not enough and that Akin should pay with his life. Jokes about murder are not jokes when it comes to politicians where the risks of assassination are real.
Conservative icon and founder of the Eagle Forum Phyllis Schlafly echoed the calls for Roves resignation.
Karl Rove has made himself toxic to Republicans by his incredibly offensive and dangerous statement suggesting the murder of Congressman Todd Akin of Missouri, Schlafly said in a statement. Any candidate or network who hires Rove will now be tarnished with this most malicious remark ever made in Republican politics.
The Associated Press reported today that Rove did apologize
But Schlafly says its not enough.
At the very least Rove should make a public apology. Rove has been calling on Todd Akin ...but the one who should resign because he made an embarrassing, malicious and downright stupid remark is Karl Rove.
Joseph Farah, founder and CEO at WND.com, has said Roves got to go.
Just out of sheer decency standards, Fox News should drop him as a contributor, he said. Sean Hannity should stop pumping up this mean-spirited political operative as the architect.
Rove has self-destructed, he said.

Akin is not an appropriate Senatorial candidate because he is dumb. As in literally stupid; very modest IQ. The Democrats know this, which is why they put in 1.5 MILLION to support Akin against other primary candidates. Those defending Akin seem to think that it’s OK for conservatives to be presented by an idiot.
As for Rove, he has to resign...from what? He’s not a public official, nor is he running for anything. He’s not an officer of any publicly traded company. He does have a position in a private organization that is providing tens of millions to support conservative candidates across the country. NOBODY involved in that organization - and none of its donors - want him to resign. And if he does go, he takes his skills and his relationships with donors with him, and the money starts to dry up.
Is that what you want? And all to defend a certifiable idiot & his theory of the magic uterus?
I must have missed Bob Beckel getting fired, then.
Wow, you are totally in the tank and hit all the RINO-Dem Coalition talking points.
Yep. Rove has never enthusiastically backed a conservative, but has bashed many.
How curious!!!
So old Bob needs to sink a little lower, I suppose. The bar is apparently pretty low.
You forgot Juan Williams and that liberal blonde chick, forgot her name.
Seriously, it’s important to listen and think about what others, including the wrong-headed, think. Sharpens all of us to defend our positions.
Lame, Chip. Stock answer to anyone who makes you think? Surely you can do better.
GeronL, you cannot defend your side, so all the can do it sputter and call names. You cannot form an argument, because you know you lost.
There’s a reason why, for example, Sarah Palin knew from the start that Akin is an idiot, and supported primary opponent Sarah Steelman. There’s a reason why Democrats ran 1.5 million in commercials to support Akin. Akin took an easy Senatorial pick-up that anyone with a brain could have secured, and made it into a dubious proposition.
The Democrats got what they paid for.
And you - GeronL - will support Akin, and thus support the continued Democrat dominance of the Senate, not for any considered reason, but out of some kind of emotional tribalism.
Karl Rove, perhaps, is suffering from the same narcissistic disease that afflicts many public figures. HE becomes more important than the People’s interest.
Rove probably supported Charlie Crist and Lincoln Chaffee too, right up until they switched. Rove should switch too.
Oyvey, we get more like the left every day.
BINGO! We have a WINNER!
Now this is justice!
Rove should’ve been made toxic after he failed to support Christine O’donnell after she won the primary. Rove’s got to go!
my side? I have a side?
How about this:
Akin is the nominee and we should support him no matter what because winning is more important than ideological purity at this point?
Does that sound familiar? Or maybe this only applies when RINO’s stuff their candidate down our throats? How come the RINO’s never follow their own advice for conservatives??
I don’t disagree with you there. But always remember, especially in television, that people are employed as long as they’re watched.
People who make asinine comments, like Rove did, will be popular as long as they bring in ratings. Regardless of what they actually say.

But Missourians have reelected Akin 6 times.
“What a bunch of weenies.
No one can take a joke anymore.”
If they had even a glimmer of a clue as to how much I am offended every damn day by rInOs and libs, they would hide in a closet.
Not to mention...almost losing to Algore! YIKES!
Uhhh, no. It had to do with what I said in my first post about divine intervention, that’s all. No need to insult me. The post was directed to xins who knows very well my feelings on this matter from previous threads.
Just ask Rick Perry.
