65 teens on a bus going to a “party”
what kind of party?
where were the parents?
Tragic.
When I was a kid growing up in Florida we would take the bus to the lake, to go rollerskating on Friday nights and just about anywhere the bus owner (who was my aunt) thought she could make a profit. No parents were needed as she did a great job keeping us in line. We were smart enough to keep our heads inside the moving vehicle, though.
Poor kid. It was a stupid thing to do, but then teenagers often do a lot of dumb things (I know I sure did). I’m wondering if there weren’t any chaperones on the upper deck of the bus.
BTW, maybe it’s just because I’m getting old, but 65 kids all going to one Sweet 16 birthday? That’s a big honking birthday party!
How does a group on a bus go from Fort Lee NJ, to party in Garfield NJ (west of Fort Lee), by way of GWBridge which heads east into NY? am I reading info wrong? Or were parents misinformed about where party was?
My friends and I did a lot of crazy things when we were young, things so crazy I'm surprised we survived them. Jumping trains was nuts. Actually, jumping on when they were moving slowly while leaving the lumber yard was easy. Jumping from them when they were up to speed was nuts. Unbelievably, none of us were ever seriously hurt. And then there was snake catching, swimming in alligator infested waters, raiding one of the many stills in the area, the list goes on.
God bless him.
Good question. I’m not that familiar with NYC or NJ but I recall very well taking the GW Bridge across the river to from NYC to NJ.
Makes you wonder how and why we survived and kids like this didn’t.
I’m betting because we didn’t stick our heads out of an emergency hatch on a bus while speeding by an underpass. Just a guess. (RIP)
I may have never stuck my head out an emergency hatch of a bus but I’ll bet this kid never jumped from a moving train either.
When I was 16 I saw a friend turn around the corner so I stood in the street for a game of chicken. He sped-up and hit the brakes. Then I sat on the hood and he peeled out, sped for a couple of blocks and slammed on the brakes. While he sped i worked my way up the hood so I could better give him the finger. when he hit the breaks I slid down the hood just short of falling off.
That was 30 years ago and not something you forget.
Ouch
I never jumped from a train but I touched the third rail.
This is most tragic. However, kids will do dumb things.
I guess next week the law suits will follow.
I feel very sad for the family. May God Help Them.
Jumping from a moving train, at night, hoping to land on the soft bank of a river 30' below and hoping/praying I didn't get skewered by something sharp or land near or on one of the billion poisonous reptiles or gators that inhabit northern Florida was, apparently, in my young mind, an acceptable risk.
I don’t recommend it but on that line the power turns on when a train is coming and off after it passes.
Scares the crap out people when you make a big show of it and fake a jolt. LoL!
Sorry to hear it.
