The following is a transcript of actor Clint Eastwood's speech at the Republican National Convention on Aug. 30, 2012.
EASTWOOD: Thank you very much. Thank you. Thank you very much. Save a little for Mitt.
(APPLAUSE)
I know what you are thinking. You are thinking, what's a movie tradesman doing out here? You know they are all left wingers out there, left of Lenin. At least that is what people think. That is not really the case. There are a lot of conservative people, a lot of moderate people, Republicans, Democrats, in Hollywood. It is just that the conservative people by the nature of the word itself play closer to the vest.
They do not go around hot dogging it.
(APPLAUSE)
So -- but they are there, believe me, they are there. I just think, in fact, some of them around town, I saw John Voigt, a lot of people around.
(APPLAUSE)
John's here, an academy award winner. A terrific guy...

Roger Ebert is the last person who should be calling someone pathetic. I will not say another word since I don’t want to be unkind.
I thought old Clint’s comedic bit was pretty clever! (If, perhaps, a bit rambling.) Made me LOL at “I can’t tell him that!” But the commentators afterward were hinting strongly that Clint had lost his marbles. For heaven’s sake, did that empty chair confuse them that much? Did these libtards never attend the theater?
“a successful actor, producer, writer, composer, and director - in other words an American success story”
You forgot mayor (of uber liberal Carmel-by-the-Sea)too
Very true. I can’t stand Roger Ebert (post medical condition). I didn’t think he was so bad before. He is just awful now. Anyway, I thought Clint did a good job.....One problem.....Everyone is talking Clint and not Romney.
I agree with you 100%, but we appear to be the only ones on this thread that think it was awful.
It disrupted not only the flow, but the unwritten message of the convention-that the party is now the younger, more diverse party of Ryan, Rubio, Haley, Martinez, Cruz, etc.
Eastwood just fed on the stereotype that the GOP is comprised of cranky old white guys.
He’s 82....... Dirty Harry was himself.....and the only thing he missed was telling “the chair” was that “.....A man needs to know his limitations.”
Thank you for the link......great speech....great Clint..........just great
That was my favorite line- along with, “no, I can’t do that to myself either. “
[wish hed said Hey, Obama. Get off our lawn!]
I was hoping the same. At least we got “Go ahead, make my day”.
I don’t see how making fun of Clint Eastwood is ever a good idea.
“I agree with you 100%, but we appear to be the only ones on this thread that think it was awful. Eastwood just fed on the stereotype that the GOP is comprised of cranky old white guys.”
Probably because we’re the only ones on this thread who aren’t cranky old white guys.
"The senseless waste of pitting these two mighty forces of nature against each other, like matter vs. anti-matter, will be a tragedy, not only for the teams involved.." [ flips card over ] "..but for our planet. All nations must band together, to ensure that such a conflageration never takes place."
[wish hed said Hey, Obama. Get off our lawn!]

Yep, an empty chair...
I’m old and white and sometimes cranky.
As an aside I hope I look as good as Clint when I’m 82.
I’m glad you found the link! :)
