The following is a transcript of actor Clint Eastwood's speech at the Republican National Convention on Aug. 30, 2012.
EASTWOOD: Thank you very much. Thank you. Thank you very much. Save a little for Mitt.
(APPLAUSE)
I know what you are thinking. You are thinking, what's a movie tradesman doing out here? You know they are all left wingers out there, left of Lenin. At least that is what people think. That is not really the case. There are a lot of conservative people, a lot of moderate people, Republicans, Democrats, in Hollywood. It is just that the conservative people by the nature of the word itself play closer to the vest.
They do not go around hot dogging it.
(APPLAUSE)
So -- but they are there, believe me, they are there. I just think, in fact, some of them around town, I saw John Voigt, a lot of people around.
(APPLAUSE)
John's here, an academy award winner. A terrific guy...

I tuned in after Clint had begun, and at first I had no clue what was going on. He was sort of stammering and didn’t seem to make sense - then after a bit the camera panned out and I saw the empty chair, just as Clint was “talking” to it. Then the light went on. Once I knew what he was doing it made sense, and was quite funny and even charming. He made strong points, and stuck some humor in there too.
I liked it. It’s weird though, to think of Clint Eastwood as being elderly.
I did like most of the “speech”, including the comments to the empty chair. A really unique way to share his humor and viewpoint.
Somebody needs to send Greta a 55 gallon drum of industrial strength Prozac. She’s still freaking out over Clint. I really hope she doesn’t hurt herself.

Best speech of the convention, IMO. Real, unscripted, funny, enjoyable.
I can picture Stewart saying that. It was very clever of Clint. Most people probably don’t remember Jimmy Stewart or the movie Harvey. : (
Thank you, it was great to read the lines again. His speech was fun and sharply critical of Obama while still being humorous and geniune :-)
Well, you got it, and so did I.
“But I just
think it is important that you realize , that you’re the best in
the world. Whether you are a Democrat or Republican or whether
you’re libertarian or whatever, you are the best. And we should
not ever forget that. And when somebody does not do the job, we
got to let them go.”
I think you are right about Boehner....like he started to party before his job was done:)
I found a youtube of the live broadcast, it’s even better the second time through! :)

Wonderful!!! Many thanks :-)
Eastwood used Alinsky on ‘em!
“Ridicule is man’s most potent weapon”
And he made their fearless leader look like a fool!
Clint has a new movie coming out any day now.
Too bad the captioner that produced this transcript didn’t have a bigger body of knowledge. Metal (phonetic) masochist. Mental masochist, fool. It is sad to see such a vibrant man looking so old, his clothes looking too big, and his voice no longer strong. I enjoyed his speech, but it made me sad. And yes, I can criticize the ability of the captioner because I could have done better.
You got it right.
Clint is an icon.
It kind of freaked me out to see him there.
He’s not a talky kind of guy and for him to be up doing a comedy routine at the RNC was sort of like one of the signs of the apocalypse.
Apparently he thinks this election is serious enough to break character and give a public speech.
He doesn’t talk much in his movies and he isn’t given to yapping in real life.
I was floored to see him there.
A 40+ year Eastwood fan,
Salamander
[wish he’d said “Hey, Obama. Get off our lawn!]
;D
Absolutely! He had me laughing out loud.
And made some great points as well.
I didn’t get to watch it on TV, and read the text of his speech on the Fox site. I have to say that watching it via the link you provided made it much more enjoyable. Thanks for posting it. Eastwood was awesome!!
Clint was great.
