Newt likes to have her with him. I’m sure it was Newt’s call.

I was thinking that might be a reason too. He does seem to love her. Oh well

In 1976, after losing the nomination to Gerald Ford, Ronald Reagan spoke at the convention and by the end of his rousing speech the people - even many of those who voted for Ford - were saying that Reagan should have been the nominee and that nomination of Ford was a terrible mistake.

Do you really believe that Romney would allow Gingrich to upstage him by "being Newt" and "speaking his mind" and presenting actual ideas, instead of neutralizing ("neutering") him by inviting him and Callista to speak at the convention with prepared / pre-approved script which was designed to extoll Romney and his unspecified "plans" for all the country's ills?

This is the part of Romney's "Keep you friends close and your enemies closer" that was designed to marginalize and compromise his Republican / Tea Party / social conservatives "enemies" and potential opposition to his agenda if he becomes president.

This convention is controlled by Romney and GOP-e. This was not Newt's speech, it was part of Romney's plan to marginalize and get people disappointed in Newt! Just part deux of "Kill Newt" in Florida.

If you saw Callista "reading" the script - she was! If you saw Newt who would rather be somewhere else than "reading" the script and was looking to wrap up the speech and get off the stage - he was!

It's really that simple...
