The U.S. military's top officer made statements Thursday which appear to warn Israel that it should not expect U.S. assistance if it chooses to attack Iran's nuclear weapons program.

Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Martin Dempsey, said such an attack would "clearly delay but probably not destroy Iran's nuclear program," The Guardian reported Thursday. He added: "I don't want to be complicit if they [Israel] choose to do it."

Dempsey said he did not know Iran's nuclear intentions, seeing as intelligence does not reveal intentions. What was clear, he said, was that the "international coalition" applying pressure on Iran "could be undone if [Iran] was attacked prematurely".

No. Obama needs to spend all of October feverishly fretting over his complete loss of influence over world events. He needs to be second or third fiddle, while the world focuses on Israel & Iran. The loss of the media spotlight - wars are real news - will kill Obama’s ego. The war will severely distract Obama from the campaign, or will show he is only interested in reelection as the threat of world war escalates.

As we have seen this very day, Obama cannot be deterred from campaigning, even as Louisiana is drowning. But then, LA is not a swing state.

Well, you don't have to use the IAF to strike Iran, you use the Jericho 3 ICBM fired from Israel and Popeye Turbo SLCM from its four Dolphin submarines fired from the Indian Ocean to takeout Iran and the mad mullahs. Use EMP to render Iran electronically deaf, dumb, and blind. Then take down the nuke sites. Let the Iranians learn to cope with the 7th century for the foreseeable future.

You're right, Mr Dempsey! We simply have no idea what Iran's intentions are. Other than what they've specifically stated Ahmanutjob stating that once Iran has nukes, they will "wipe Israel off the map." Or when the Grand Cyclops Mullah said that the extermination of Jews and destruction of Israel would be worth the loss of 100 million muslims.

Nope, there's no way of knowing what Iran's intentions are... Just like nobody knew what Hitler might do when he gained power, even after reading "Mein Kampf."

Just because a maniac says he's going to do something, doesn't mean he's really going to do it, right?

I would love to stop all foreign aid just until the debt is paid and then we can help people again. If we save in foreign aid, we could really put a big dent in the debt.

I seem to recall reading that cutting off all foreign aid would not cover a single year's annual deficit, meaning that the US will still continue to rack up debt. It will certainly slow the growth of the debt, but the debt will continue to grow.

At this point, 40% of every dollar the government spends is now borrowed.

The CVBG does not necessarily have to intercept the strike to interdict it.
If the CVBG can provide early warning and tracking data to Iran, then they might have time to engage with their best stuff. The Iranian air force is pretty much useless, but if the Iranians actually got the S-300s they wanted, the Israelis might have to run a dangerous gauntlet against a forewarned enemy.
Heck, it is even “deniable,” a big plus for the Liar-in-chief.

Israel also knows that Iran will attack US Military bases in the gulf region in retaliation for an Israeli attack, or Iran will close the Strait of Hormuz, either way the US is in a shooting war.

Ummm. Theoretically. The CVBG Combat Center would need to ‘exercise’ with the Iranian controllers to make sure that the alerts are properly formatted & passed. Otherwise you get what we had at Peal Harbor... an Army radar station that wasn’t really plugged into the anti-aircraft defenses & couldn’t ‘talk’ to the Navy. They detected the strike alright. But the ‘word’ couldn’t get down to where it mattered.

Also, I don’t know about the deniability part. The entire CIC would know.

Never underestimate you enemy. Iranian leaders might be idiots. But for Iranian ADA, nobody knows. Remember, Iranians are NOT Arabs...

But a valid question is, are S-300s Israeli cyber warfare proof?

Don’t know how good the Iranian’s are, but the IAF is darn good at jamming and EW. They Syrian air defense network reportedly suffered something akin to an electronic coronary when the Israeli strike went in and destroyed their nuclear reactor. I dont’ think anybody really knows how they did it.

The USAF speaks a lot about “electronic attack” when speaking of the capabilities of the F-22 radar system. What that is I can only imagine. It’s a good bet that the Israelis have developed a similar capability with their heavily modified F-15’s and F-16I’s.

The radar (AESA) on the F-22 (and F-35 for that matter) can be used as a “death ray” to disrupt and disable electronics. Dunno what the range or required dwell time is, though. That might be what the are referring to by “electronic attack.”

I don’t know that this capability exists for F-15s and F-16s. I suppose it could be retro-fitted.
