TAMPA-- Former Sec. of State Condoleezza Rice implored Republicans to champion a "compassionate" immigration policy in her speech at the Republican National Convention Wednesday.
"We must continue to welcome the world's most ambitious people to be a part of us. In that way we stay young and optimistic and determined," Rice said. "We need immigration laws that protect our borders; meet our economic needs; and yet show that we are a compassionate people."

I think most here fall somewhere between Conservative Statist and Conservative Libertarian. And I doubt everyone is Pro-Life.
If one is pro-homo, pro-abortion, pro-lying and pro-illegal alien then one isn’t a conservative.
Kind of like saying the Moon is made out of cheese doesn’t mean it really is because it really isn’t. You can have your own opinion but not your own facts.
Being a conservative has a real meaning.

Agreed.
I’m talking about the difference between Statism and Libertarianism (the opposite of Statism) in the Conservative context which centers on Life, traditions, traditional marriage, small gov, pro-Military, etc.
As a Conservative Libertarian, I’m not that interested in having the govt enforce my Conservative views. A Conservative Statist would rely on the govt to enforce his Conservative views.
I thought Rice’s speech was very Pro American. She brought the house down.
I guess I've always admired people who can make a speech in front of millions with or without a teleprompter...now more than ever.
Grow up.
Has she read the Republican Platform?
I took Rice’s immigration position to mean, especially since it was given in the context of Silicon Valley entrepreneurship, that our immigration policy should be “compassionate” (i.e., favor) those who are educated, skilled, and have high-thinking, high-value human capital assets to bring to bear for which we may have a shortage. It’s important to favor the best and the brightest minds getting in, like we did in the past before opening the floodgates to no-value, bottom-barrel leechers of our system. Favoring brainiacs by, for example, moving them to the head of the line, is exactly what we need in a globalized, highly-competitve economy. “Compassion” as she applied it means breaking rank with a purely first-in-time, first-in-right legal immigration policy to select for those who will add the most to the American ethos without depriving existing Americans of opportunities. Anyone who has lived in Silicon Vallry has seen how prolific the concentration of first-generation, highly accomplished immigrants live there to contribute to the most important economic engine our economy has, and that brainpower selectivity should be applied to the entire system so that those sorts of folks are the ones we’re prioritizing in by having “compassion” for what they offer and move them to the front of the line.
We need to get our immigration system under control .We’re not able to absorb the numbers of legal and illegal’s that are coming into this country and it’s ruining this society.
Man, that sounds good to me.....lotta good ideas expressed there. L.o.v.e the part about taking over Mexico's oil fields.
More than appropriate----since the Mehicanos are financing their Fifth Column over the border into the US to hollow out the US govt from within........preparing for reconquista.
Oh please....a.n.o.t.h.e.r “brilliant” idea from Condi?
How well we remember her “brilliance” when she sap-happily proclaimed Pakistan was “ ready to share power”........
Nehru’s daughter got into the race for office-—and was promptly assasinated.
LLS
Let’s send the ‘Compassionate Condo’ to the border with no security and let here preach compassion to the US Citizens that live on the Mex border. I remember Condo’s compassion did the Israeli’s a lot of good when the Pali’s elected Hamas. Note how this bunch of Romney Repubs are so afraid to address illegal immigrants and the Black Mob attacks? Cowards like these will not do much to straighten out this country.
“Going for the Hispanic vote” with amnesty will be the end of even as much of a conservative majority that we can sometimes still muster.
Bringing in massive numbers of uneducated peasants (whose offspring too often still resist education three generations in) and giving them immediate, favored, ‘protected’ status—as we do with every single Hispanic immigrant—will be the death of this country.
She does not impress me.
Hola American stupidos
My head is spinning because I’m trying to figure out what’s going on here. Just a very few weeks ago, Freepers were aghast at the rumor Condi might be Romney’s VP; her record was, quite rightfully, posted all over this site as proof she would be a poor choice. But last night on the live convention thread, everybody was swooning over her, weeping, and gushing how much they love her.
I dont think she meant bringing in.
Sorry . I have a lot of respect for her.
