WASHINGTON, DC, August 29, 2012 (LifeSiteNews.com) A poll of likely Missouri general election voters released this morning shows that, far from being out of the race, embattled Senate candidate Todd Akin has regained his lead over Senator Claire McCaskill by a 45% to 42% margin, with 13% undecided.
The survey conducted by Wenzel Strategies commissioned by Family Research Council Action also shows Akin leading by 10 points among independent voters.
“Despite the firestorm of news in the Senate race over the past few weeks, most voters have already made up their mind in the race, the survey shows, said Wenzel Strategies pollster Fritz Wenzel. The fact that 80% said they were firm in their choice certainly indicates that this is a race that will be decided more by ideology and turnout efforts by the campaigns and less by breaking news that flashes across the news pages and cable news channels.”
Wenzel also observed that McCaskill holds a 58% lead over Akin among very liberal voters, but that pales compared to Akins 81% to 5% lead among very conservative voters in Missouri.
Family Research Council Action PAC Chairman Tony Perkins was unequivocal in his support for Akin. Throughout his career, Todd Akin has consistently fought for legislation that honors marriage, human life, religious freedom, and national security, he said.
He also has a long record of opposing the commodification of women - in stark contrast to his opponent and liberal detractors, who promote groups like Planned Parenthood while ignoring how abortion harms them.
Perkins noted that McCaskill has supported taxpayer funding for abortion on demand. She came to the Senate claiming to govern from the center but has instead been a steadfast supporter of President Obama and his liberal policies, he said.
The Family Research Council telephone poll was conducted by Wenzel Strategies from Aug. 27 to Aug. 28, testing 829 voters for a margin of error of plus or minus 3.38 percent. The sample was 32.7 percent Democrats, 34.1 percent Republicans and 33.2 percent independents.
I agree. One poll means nothing. And when it comes to Akin shooting off his mouth and doing more damage, there’s a lot of campaign yet to go.
Akin should receive far more money from national pro life groups and PACs than he would have received from the national Republican Senate fund. This race is a point of honor for pro life people. McCaskill supports Obama. Obama is not only a vapid failure but celebrates all abortion including grisly third trimester killing. The campaign must force the voters of Missouri to make a real choice.
Yea, there’s some errors in the polling somewhere. There’s no way Democrats aren’t pulling 90% for her, and if she’s getting anywhere from 25-40% of moderates, it’s over for Akin.

Does a good job of getting his ‘talking points’ in.
People said he did horribly in an interview with Hannity so I was glad to see him doing very well in this.
If Akins wins *and* if Romney carries Missouri I will apologize abjectly for my demands that he withdraw. Before that *politically* stupid comment Missouri was counted as a clean sweep for Republicans.Anything less than that in November is *AKINS'S* fault.
PERIOD!!!!
Priebus, Romney, the GOPe, rinos, NRC, NRSC have made it clear that conservatives, (read Tea Party) are not welcome.
Consider the absurdity of a Presidential candidate working to keep a member of his party out of the Senate. Is it not clear the GOPe prefers the lunatic McCaskill over the conservative Akin? What about the GOPe attempted coup yesterday to empower Mittens to substitute unworthy delegates with rinos of his choosing? The denial of funds to Akin and recent Convention events are closely connected and designed to show the world of trouble the establishment can visit on any conservative it wishes.
I stand by Akin, I know that. Yeah, he kind of put his foot in his mouth, but what politician/media type gets scientific facts correct all the time? He touched on a truth, and the liberals and moderates from both parties jumped all over him.
They completely ignored the context: Akin is saying there should be no "exemption" on abortion for rape. And I agree with him.
GO TODD AKIN!
So you supported the conservative if he wins but opposed him all along if he loses.
Got it.
Get over it, Akin caused this firestorm, if he had focused on Claire McCaskil rather than the GOP-E, maybe he wouldn't be in this mess.
Oh BTW, the Tea Party condemned him, also notice when Todd Akin keeps his mouth shut, he wins against Claire McCaskill
This race is a point of honor for pro life people. My guess is Todd Akin has over 50,000,000 supportive voices in heaven. Folks sometimes forget to ask for their "pull" in cases such as these. Sweet unborn in heaven, please pray for Todd Akin (and Mike Huckabee).
I have heard through the Republican grapevine that Missouri’s other RINO Senator has given aid and comfort to the Head of the Black Caucus. The RINO Senator asked his fellow Republican’s to go easy on the Rev. during the 2010 election.
You were among the first at this forum to join the gang rape of Akin. Enjoy yourself.
I will as long as Todd Akin shuts his mouth and "wisdom" about abortion and rape, and focuses on Claire McCaskill, but you Jacquerie, do not want that.
IMO, you want McCaskill to win.
Oh no, are you another Willie?
OBTW, the Tea Party is a leaderless, grass roots, up from the bottom movement of Americans. No single person or small group speaks for us.
Go Akin!
I am not a Missourian, but if I were, I would vote for him.
Would you?
Uh you do know that it was Akin who stated "legitimate rape" and that the female reprooductive system shuts down during rape.
A gaffe, is a gaffe, is a gaffe, and you elephant want me to take it and lay back and enjoy it like the democrats lay back when Joe Biden and Obama make a gaffe.
