They’re part of the missing 7 states! Good job.

Which State is Arizon? Anyway we all make mistakes, maybe the admin or mods can change the title and after that just delete my post...

Freshman Rep. David Schweikert (R-AZ) defeated freshman Rep. Dan Quayle

Good stuff. Quayle tripped into his seat accidentally in the first place, winning a multi-candidate primary based on name alone after a terrible campaign.

FrogDad and I went at about 5:30, after work. The ballot-eating machine read “49”. I was appalled until the poll workers told me they’d had “quite a few” early ballots dropped off. They also said that Cochise County sent out over 22K early ballots.

I don’t know how many votes they ended up with, but it may not be as bad as it appeared.

I'm pleased Flake won.

Sure, it's another notch on Sarah Palin's endorsement belt, but Flake was one of the few House Republicans to call out the drunken spenders of his own party during the early Bush years. He rejected the leadership's claim the budget was, in Tom DeLay's infamous statement, fat free. Jeff Flake also wanted to offset the borrowing for Katrina relief but the leadership wouldn't even allow it to come up for debate. On fiscal issues, he'll make a welcome addition to the U.S. Senate.

Palin-endorsed Paul Gosar won in District 4; her choice in District 5, Kirk Adams, did not succeed against the incumbent Republican.

Going two for three isn't bad.

Kirk Adams lost to Matt Salmon in District 5, and Salmon was not the incumbent. This was an open seat because of redistricting.

It's actually Ben Quayle, but David Schweikert is a much stronger asset. Quayle the Younger is no genius, and it comes across clearly on TV.

Vernon Parker is a good guy, but he's in a difficult gerrymandered district against young, bisexual, feminist, Communist Kyrsten Sinema, who is going to attract a lot of out-of-state money. They would love to turn her into the next Debbie Wasserman-Schultz - an irrational shouter whom they think comes across as charismatic on TV.

Jeff Flake should be an upgrade over Jon Kyl. Sarah Palin got that one right.

Correct, of course, and thanks - it was my lapsus digitorum.

Quayle the Younger is no genius, and it comes across clearly on TV.

You are being charitable. Fortunately, we'll soon be spared his wit in the media, at least for a while.

Schweikert won with approximately 53% of the vote. This is a good result, IMO. It’s a safe Republican seat, so Schweikert should easily keep it.

That would be "Congressman-for-Life" Schweikert. This was a plum seat that will be solidly Republican for at least a decade, and probably beyond. Same for Gosar in CD 4, one of the most Republican districts in the country.
