Ann Romney: 'This Man Will Lift Up America!' (Excerpts from Ann's convention speech)
Weekly Standard ^ | August 28, 2012

Posted on 08/28/2012 3:50:04 PM PDT by GOPinCa

The Romney campaign released these excerpts of Ann Romney's speech, which she'll deliver tonight at the Republican convention in Tampa: “Tonight I want to talk to you from my heart about our hearts.

“I want to talk not about what divides us, but what holds us together as an American family. I want to talk to you tonight about that one great thing that unites us, that one thing that brings us our greatest joy when times are good, and the deepest solace in our dark hours.

“Tonight I want to talk to you about love. …

“Mitt's dad never graduated from college. Instead, he became a carpenter.

“He worked hard, and he became the head of a car company, and then the governor of Michigan.

“When Mitt and I met and fell in love, we were determined not to let anything stand in the way of our life together. …

“I read somewhere that Mitt and I have a ‘storybook marriage.’ Well, in the storybooks I read, there were never long, long, rainy winter afternoons in a house with five boys screaming at once. And those storybooks never seemed to have chapters called MS or Breast Cancer.

My post was that we cannot do a pretend, Soviet style rewrite of Romney’s first 60 years of life and politics, and you find that intolerable?

You want to do a cult like self brainwashing, where we create a new truth about the Romneys, and who, and what, they have always been before this presidential campaign?

Under the bright lights and pressure it’s got to be tougher than it looks.

But the whole thing looks fake. 50 year old women’s skin and neck don’t look like that. Plastic surgery.

Barbara Bush, where are you?

It is on now 10:15pm EST

Ann just mentioned rising gas and food prices. Doesn’t she have her chauffeur and maid take care of those for her? I would have cut that part out of the speech.

Now I’m one of thousands of unemployed college graduates, and the thought of 4 more years of this economy makes me sick. I’m not going to sacrifice my adulthood with Obamanomics because Romney’s not my #1 choice, and if that makes me a CINO because I want to do stuff like get married and have a family one day, so be it. I personally feel like I don’t have a choice otherwise."

Excellent points and well said, Shadow!

What I find intolerable is your unwillingness to oust 0bama. You seem to think a President is all seeing, all powerful, which 0bama is trying to do, and which you seem curiously in agreement about.

You seem to have very narrow vision and knowledge.

If you really are pro-life, what is needed is to take both houses of Congress and get 0bama out of the WH.

If 0bama is re-elected, none of that can happen. Talk about cut off your nose to spite your face.

Six years plus, learning about the presidential candidate, Mitt Romney, for some reason you rewrote that to say 6 years of learning about “Mormons”.

You want us to sign up for a truth denial club and rewrite some fantasy story about the Romneys, you can vote as you wish, without having to cease being a thinking, honest person.

She is absolutely fantastic, what a beautiful and capable woman Ann is! Ann Romney would make an absolutely amazing First Lady. She’s a successful mother, wife, and most recently as a fabulous speaker at the GOP convention!

You can’t take Ann’s success away from her! No matter how hard you try.

Absolutely awesome speech.

Definitely makes me hold a more favorable view towards Mitt. I am sure I am not alone.

I was damn impressed by Mrs. Romney’s speech.

She is an intelligent and charming woman.

I will vote for her to be my First Lady, and I will do so proudly.

And to the first couple of loser comments in this thread, get a damn life, for God’s sake.

Mitt and Ann started out like many other young kids. They didn’t have everything handed to them. They lived in lean times.

Mitt’s and her status today, is still based on their youthful experience, and she was touching on that so folks at home could realize she does know what it’s like to try to make ends meet.

Just mentioning these concerns of normal people, does express the thought that she knows what is important to them. I see nothing wrong with that.

Your humor is getting to me. Gave me a giggle.

Truth denial people believe every word from 0bama's Ayer's written tome, 'Dream's from my Father', or whatever that ghost-written crap was called. They believe in community organizers and welfare.

I don't trust in any of the above.

I question how old you are. It's traditional at conventions to have family speak and have lots of pomp and circumstance. It's been that way forever, not an attempt to re-write history and I've been around a long time.

There were parts I liked, but the part about women being so much more important than men, we’ll, sorry Ann, but I vote too, and that sucked hind tit.

Every single thing she brought up that women do, I did in my household. I found that portion of her comments profoundly offensive.

Reaching out to women is one thing. Walking on the bodies of men to do it, that’s another.

I didn’t see her doing that. She emphasized the role of women because that is the issue right now, not men.
