Over 120 Pastors & Christian Leaders Stand with Todd

St. Louis, MO: Today the Akin campaign released a list of over 120 pastors and Christian leaders who are publicly standing with Todd Akin. Some had previously signed their name, but many are voicing their support for the first time. These religious figures from every region of the state have decided to place their personal and very public support behind Congressman Todd Akin in his race for the United States Senate seat this year. The endorsement statement released was as follows:

We the undersigned do hereby affirm/reaffirm our continued support of Congressman Todd Akin for the office of United States Senate. We know his character and his conservative convictions. Furthermore, we accept fully his apology and his request for forgiveness. As stated in our previous endorsement: “We greatly appreciate his long standing commitment to our God-given rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness and his proven record of defending life, traditional marriage, religious liberty, the Second Amendment, free enterprise, limited government, fiscal responsibility and a strong national defense.”

It is for such reasons as these, that we the undersigned affirm/reaffirm our personal support and continue to encourage our fellow Missourians to support Congressman Todd Akin as our next United States Senator.

Disgusting. And to think, Romney's firm disposed of human fetuses who lives were ended as inhumanely as this. Just disgusting.

Akin’s remarks were ambiguous and definitely warranted clarification.

They also weren't the summary sound byte that's being attributed to him by Orwell's sheep.

I love Akin. I send him $500 a month. He was so wonderful to stand for the life of the innocent child!! Why does romney want to kill the baby? The platform of our party prohibits that. Tell me, fs a women is actually raped and by some miracle concieves a human being— why kill the baby? Why don’t we allow adoptions any more. God created the baby, and romney wants it killed? Shame on romney.

Well, actually, fuehrer means leader. Fuehrer does not mean “one who practices genocide” any more than prince means “one who parties naked in Las Vegas hotel rooms.”

This is much good news, although I had expected it.

Not just in Missouri...but all over the nation Christian Conservatives are showing support for Akin, and decrying the GOP Media and Liberal Pro-Aborts treatment of him.

It is time for the Liberal GOP and GOP Media to quit helping out Claire McCaskill and stand behind Akin. He has apologized for his comments. Now, it is time for the liberal wing of the GOP to stop the “cut and run” and stop the spinning.

Akin is staying in, and he is going to win

No. You are not going to live this one down. You are not to be taken seriously. This will follow you.

First, Uncle Chip uses the term Fuehrer Romney. Then he doubles down. "What he pulled down there in Tampa is more despicable and makes him worthy of the title."

And predictably, your little sick-o-fant echo chamber comes to your defense by attacking Romney on abortion. As a pro-life Catholic, I don't agree with most of what Romney stands for and will oppose him, marching in the streets when necessary. But to bring up a Hitler reference and say Romney is more despicable than Hitler is outrageous and foolish. Is Romney worse than Pol Pot? Mao? Stalin? Leopold II? Kim Il Sung? Idi Amin? Ho Chi Min? Or do you confine Romney merely being worse than Hitler?

Good point.

Which should tell you that the real whining about Akin is not for his comment...but his stand on the issues

The Romney quote is a lot more troubling....that should tell you where all the Akin critics may be standing

Riebus’s statement today puts to rest the nonsense we heard all week about him not being able to beat McCaskill. The Romney GOP don’t want him to win and never did. They would rather have McCaskill in the Senate.

Exactly.

And, also, how the GOP Media would rather have McCaskill over Akin

“YEP — After what the Romney camp pulled today in Tampa a lot of people got a wake up call though some are still stuck on stupid. “

I am a Christian conservative who feels I was disenfranchised today by Boehner and Sunnunu’s power play to keep the elites in charge.

If I lived in Missouri I would vote for Akin-the man made a mistake-let’s forgive him. But quit eating our own and vote for a conservative candidate. Don’t GIVE it to McCaskill.

Duh, I need you to keep educating me. My grandfather, God rest his soul, who came here from Austria never shared that with me. I should not have slept through the 12 or so history classes in college. Is it a Danish word? French? Spanish? Since WW II, I’ll bet leaders all over the world are called Fuehrer. I’ll bet you can name them. And I’ll bet it only attaches to Hitler about 3% of the time.

Your pal had the chance to take it back. It was clearly a Hitlerian reference. Instead of taking it back, he again made the reference to Hitler saying what Romney did in Tampa was more despicable. More despicable than Hitler. I

What p*sses me off even more is having to defend Romney. I don’t want to do that. I would even defend the loathsome Eric Holder if he were called Hitler. He is not Hitler. But he is deserving of prosecution and incarceration. Maybe even evisceration.

I once knew a young man who worked as a reisefeuhrer. His job was to show tourists around. The word feuhrer relates to a whole range of positions.

But, you might be right - maybe your poster was likening Romney to Hitler.
That would certainly be unfair.

I apologize to you for being sarcastic. We are not enemies. Yes, Fuehrer means “leader.” Had Hitler not taken over Germany, it may well be a common term that would have a positive connotation today instead of immediately seeing the image of Mein Fuehrer.

I really want FreeRepublic to remain the conservative place to go and have our ideas mean something and be taken seriously. The idiots in the DU and other places called Bush, Hitler. They looked like the loons they are. After the first reference, Uncle Chip doubled down and his words were very clear. I understand and am equally unhappy about strong armed tactics at the convention. But it is not Hitler. Then others chimed in regarding the Hitler reference to immediately attack Romney. I am a pro-life Catholic who does not particularly like Romney. But the Hitler reference is way over the top.

There’s 140 Baptists on this list. Some of them aren’t even pastors of churches. This isn’t a weighty list at all.

Well, Hitler was special. After his death, they more or less retired his surname. Young Adolfs are pretty rare, too.

Like you imply, he also sullied the word fuehrer.

What happened in Tampa that disturbs you? Was it Santorum’s great speech? He should be the nominee.

I’m not looking forward to it either, because it isn’t a good time to have a fight. Sadly sometimes we don’t get to pick the time when we fight.

I support Akin, even though I do not agree with what he said, and I also do not agree with his philoshpy on that issue. But at the same time, I appreciate his fighting spirit, I don’t like cowardice, I don’t like the political cannaibalism of the GOP.

Even though I am not 100% conservative on every single issue, I want my leaders to be conservative. I want my federal representaives to be conservative. I don’t want them backing down at the first sign of trouble.

So all that being said, I hope Akin wins.
