(CNN) -- Former longtime U.S. Sen. Arlen Specter was battling for his life early Tuesday after he was recently diagnosed with a "serious form of cancer," a source close to his office told CNN.
Specter, who has overcome numerous serious illnesses over the past two decades, including a brain tumor and non-Hodgkins lymphoma, was diagnosed six weeks ago with the new form of cancer, the specifics of which are being closely shielded by his family.
He had "a big flareup" of the disease Monday night, the source said.
Specter served in U.S. Senate from 1980 until 2011, making him the longest-serving senator from Pennsylvania.

I hope Arlen makes peace with God. Unfortunately, I suspect he will be as stiffnecked as his friend Edward Moore Kennedy and will find himself smelling the burning brimstone.
Let him have ObamaCare!
Sadly, I agree. Arlen Specter was an opportunist and took moderate and even liberal positions on issues. He did not support his party on certain key issues. And he did have a nasty side. But none of that is a reason to be happy about his disease or laugh at his death or wish that he rotted in Hell. Some people are upset that he was Pro-Abortion. I am Pro-Life but I know that a big chunk of the country is not 100% Pro-Life and I don’t go around laughing or being happy when a Pro-Choice person dies. Some people pick out other parts of his voting record to show that he somehow deserves to die or burn in Hell. That is disgusting. I hope a lot of the nastier posts are trolls. There is no excuse for the bile on this thread.
I think the difference between FR and liberal boards is that you will find people such as yourself, that are not full of hate, here on FR. You will find NO such people on a liberal site.
“Let him have ObamaCare!”
Indeed. Why shouldn’t those petty dictators live under the same laws they pass for the rest of us? Damned elitists!
To “don’t say nothing” is to say something. The cute bunny should beware of double negatives.
What has happened to our beautiful language????
When we allow incorrect usage to pass without correction it can only get worse.
Our teachers are as much at fault for the situation. They don’t care about spelling, punctuation or usage as long as “the content is meaningful”. SHEESH!
No bile here. The truth is that Specter was a nasty person who turned charm on and off like a light switch. Murtha was in the same category, just a bigger crook.
They will be remembered for their deeds, period.
Bambi, the Disney movie, was released in 1942. Thumper, the bunny was being admonished by his mother for saying something inappropriate at Bambi’s presentation. The language was meant to be evocative of a young, unschooled child. I am quite sure the Disney writer’s knew the proper grammar of the English language, but it would not have been useful to their intentions........
Must...resist...the....temptation...to...comment....
I also pray that God help all of us to have a better understanding of the best way to maintain Life, Liberty, and Happiness.
Huh?
Did Disney use subtitles in the movie? I could only believe your “explanation” if the mother did correct him, then and there, in print or verbally. I don’t remember the movie, I only remember seeing the error, in print, on the cartoon.
Are you pulling my leg?
Buh bye!!!
Prayers for his health.
Prayers up for Sen. Spector and his family.
Regardless of what Specter was politically still wish him the best in his time of illness. God is merciful to all who call on Him.
