Court Rules Israel Wasn’t at Fault in U.S. Activist’s Death By DANIELLE ZIRI and JODI RUDOREN

HAIFA, Israel — An Israeli judge ruled on Tuesday that the state bore no responsibility for the death of Rachel Corrie, the young American woman who was run over by a military bulldozer in 2003 as she protested housing demolitions in the Gaza Strip.

The lengthy verdict in the civil case, read to a courtroom packed with supporters of Ms. Corrie’s family here, called the death an accident that occurred during “a military activity meant to prevent terrorist activity.”

“She chose to put herself in danger,” said the judge, Oded Gershon. “She could have easily distanced herself from the danger like any reasonable person would.”

Since her death, Ms. Corrie has become an international symbol of the Palestinian resistance. A play based on her writings has been performed in 10 countries, and a ship in an aid flotilla to Gaza bore her name. Numerous books and documentaries have told of how Ms. Corrie, a 23-year-old student, stood in an orange vest with a bullhorn between a bulldozer and the home of a Palestinian family in March 2003 during the height of the second intifada, or uprising.

A lawyer representing the state said after the hearing on Tuesday that the driver of the bulldozer did not see Ms. Corrie, and could not have.

But at a news conference after the verdict, the Corrie family’s lawyer, Hussein Abu Hussein, showed pictures of Ms. Corrie taken that day in 2003, pointing out her bright garb that he said “anyone could have seen.”

Dear Mr. and Mrs. Corrie,

Your daughter, Rachel, is dead because she was stupid. She put herself in front of an armored bulldozer in a conflict she did not understand and in a place she should not have been. She put herself out of sight of the equipment operator and was killed. While she is considered a “martyr” for whatever loony cause you subscribe, in the final analysis, Rachel is dead because she was raised by stupid parents to do stupid things. She, and you, have now paid the ultimate price for that arrogance and stupidity.

You are lucky Israel is not suing you to pay for the trauma therapy for the bulldozer operator. This trauma was inflicted upon him as the direct result of your daughter’s stupid and fatal stunt.

Rachel is dead and gone. The world is a much better place since she committed suicide. She is an example many of her kind should follow.

Her family is earth scum. The fact they raised her to be such a meddler is travesty. They are representative of the scum in the White House.

As far as I can see, she was an activist who died for her cause. She’s a huge martyr in the muslim world. Her parents should squelch their greed and accept it for what it is. They’re besmirching her memory. They’re doing exactly what they claim to be against.
