I ave a thick northern English accent and once two black guys asked where I were from .
Well I had been asked twice that day already and told them the truth but both times they refused to believe me, seem s people from England to some have to talk like the Queen and not common like me.
Anyway I told them I'm south African and they turned to me and said :you can't be African you're white”.
The looks on their faces was priceless.
Yeah, this guy was an immigrant from SA.
ATL has a relatively large SA Jewish immigrant population that started in the 70s. I learned of it from Jewish neighbors at our first house who had several friends thus, that we met at parties. This was in the mid-80s. Also knew another guy thus through professional connections in the same time frame. I think in the Post-WWII era, Jews can smell when things are going South, and started bailing out from SA early.
