My understanding is that "former" is not used when referring to a Marine.

As a former Marine I can tell you that you suffer from a misunderstanding.

I have heard of "dishonored" or "disgraced" being applied to a few - but not "former"

You've never heard of "ex"?

When you swear the oath, is there a time limitation on it?
