The most remarkable stat in the poll may be this from the crosstabs: even voters who say they are supporting Akin think he should withdraw by a 16-point margin, 50 percent to 34 percent. That suggests there's a floor for a Republican Senate candidate in Missouri, but that conservatives in the state would rather have a different option in the race

IMO, he's out creeped Claire McCaskill, and Claire McCaskill has a war chest to keep on her message, that she is not as much a creep as Akin is.
I know, I know, Akin is a good conservative, but he has to live with his words and those words gave McCaskill and the democrats an armory full of ammunition.
Did you know that Obama said his faith in Jesus is not only real, but LEGITIMATE too!
I guess faith isn’t just faith to Obama.
60% - 70% of Republicans want a different presidential candidate than Romney.
Are we going to get a replacement?
I doubt your figures, and in my primary, I voted for Gingrich, but can you show me where, Romney said such things as "legitimate rape" or that the female reproductive system shuts down during rape.
I would replace Romney with Akin.
If that’s true WHY is he the nominee with an overwhelming vote>
Or are you just a sour grapes socon?
It makes Akin, even though he did apologize, look unwise. It’s not fair, Democrats get away with all manner of palpable B.S. and Akin is called on the carpet for this.
Now that would cause every Democrat and liberal head to explode. Guaranteed.
And most of the country would shoot him down, socon hayseed!
Life ain’t fair, pal.
If it was, the Dodgers would still be in Brooklyn.
What makes you hate socons so much? Are you a homosexual or an illegal drug user?
PS....Akin is the socon hayseed, not you, BF.
But Akin would still lose in a landslide in that situation,
What? No barf alert!
(Guess I didn’t get the memo: Still pulling for Akin here.)
I agree, but conservatives are all about first impressions, and Akin, who held a cozy house seat and faced no real opposition, came to face to reality, and he did not do well when he was out of his bubble.
A 9 point difference btw Akin and McCaskill is still too close for Politico and the liberal establishment, particularly given that his comment alienated a great number of female voters. I’m beginning to think he can come back.
As a Congressman for 12 years, this wasn't his first impression to a lot of Missourians.
He's not dropping out so it's time for Republicans to give him a second chance and vote for the lesser of two evils, Anybody But McCaskill. If Akin flip-flops on the rape issue that still won't make him 2% the flip-flopper that Romney is.
???
Open primaries.
Have you always been a Romneybot?
Please, he held a safe seat for 12 years, and most Missourians(and Americans in whole) do not even know who their congressman is. Just look at those famous Jay Leno and Sean Hannity interviews.
Face it, Akin said stupid things and the liberal media pounced on it.
Just think if Akin used his brain, and said that the baby should not be killed because of the sin of the father, rather than going into such things as "legitimate rape".
He wouldn't have gone from a lead to a 9 point deficit.
