No, it’s not ooops. The perp was hit by seven shots, so most of them found their mark and there were 10 people injured by richochets (possibly even some bullets that had passed through the killer, since some of the injuries were not that serious).
The cops had no knowledge about whether he was planning to pull off an Aurora-style killing (which was also done with a .45, wasn’t it?) and unfortunately, in a situation like that, you have to react as fast as you can and take out the killer.
Incidentally, all the folks here who have been calling for armed theater patrons who would have risen up and started blasting the Aurora killer...you’d have a lot more dead.
Cops at least practice and it sounds like a lot of them hit their marks, but having an exchange of gunfire in a crowded place anywhere is going to result in people other than the target being hit in one way or another, either by stray bullets or by richocheting shots.
So why didn't they have their weapons drawn in such a dire situation?
Incidentally, all the folks here who have been calling for armed theater patrons who would have risen up and started blasting the Aurora killer...youd have a lot more dead.
And you know this how?

The perp was hit three times not seven.
Also from the article:
“The police commissioner said the suspect pulled his gun out of his briefcase as the officers approached, pointing at them. “
Doesn’t sound like “an Aurora-style killing.” In fact it was a premeditated homicide where the perp killed his intended victim and was walking away. It was the police who turned it into Aurora redux.
