New York (CNN) -- All nine people injured in Friday's shooting in front of the Empire State Building were wounded by police gunfire, New York Police Commissioner Ray Kelly told reporters Saturday.
The officers unloaded a total of 16 rounds at a disgruntled former apparel designer, killing him after he shot and killed a co-worker and engaged in a gunbattle with police, authorities have said.
Police said an investigation is under way after one officer shot nine rounds while another shot seven. Three victims suffered gunshot wounds, while the remaining six were hit by fragments.
The gunman, who served in the U.S. Coast Guard in the late 1970s, had two rounds left in his .45-caliber pistol. It holds eight rounds, Kelly said.
The violence erupted Friday morning just as visitors began to queue up to ascend the famous New York skyscraper in one of Manhattan's busiest neighborhoods.

He’s going to either raise taxes, or increase the fare for the trains and buses to make up for it now.
And this will happen soon.
Gives new meaning to “Shoot first, ask questions later”.
Feel safe yet?
“WTF has that got to do with anything?”
Because they’re trying to sell and plant the idea that vets are terrorists...
I don’t feel safe even when I’m at home.
Dad was NYPD He retired in ‘68 Once a year he went to the range on Rodman’s Neck and put a box or so of shells through his Model 10.
Had he not been just out of the Marines when he joined the force, I a sure he would have been barely trained too
A friend of my sons joined NYPD around 10 years ago. And he came over to me to ask h how to make various types of weapons safe as they never taught him anything other than how to fire the plastic gun he was issued. And barely knew anything about that
I’m pretty sure they carry Glock 9mm with a NY trigger.

Aren’t the NYPD Glocks all fitted with the NY-1 trigger that increases the trigger pull to 8 pounds? This was a measure taken to eliminate AD’s but it comes at the cost of accuracy.
Well, they are pretty damn lucky the 3 bystanders were not shot to death. As the corrupt unionized government in NYC run by that leftist lunatic would need to raise taxes again to pay the damages.
As it is, they’ll be sued for millions, instead of tens of millions.
You didn’t specify NY. You asked if I thought police should be subject to the same regs as citizens.
In any case my answer is no because I believe the police must be armed too do their job. I also believe the citizens ought to be able to carry.
ROTFLMAO (if I didn’t laugh at that I might go nuts)
Laughter does help and it drives the narcissist party crazy...lol
The fines for the over-16oz soda violations will pay the bills. LOL.
Problem is that they screen out those with too high of a score. They don't want independent thinkers; they want those who will blindly follow orders.
Man, I can vividly remember having to duck walk with those M-14s over our heads; in the hot July wether of Fort Benning, Georgia.

Exactly, nowhere to go. That one cop in the video, took up a whole 90 degrees of sidewalk, gun blazing. The people in the line of fire had no chance.

Uh-uh. You?
You’re in a busy street setting. There are people 360 degrees around you, and a person is shooting into the crowd and at you. What do you do? Do you just let him continue shooting?
Okay, he only had a couple of rounds left in the weapon, but had extra magazines in his briefcase. He could have fired on for some time.
People were not shot by the police directly. They were hit by remnants of rounds broken off by hitting planters.
Seems to me the officers did the best they could. They and the bystanders were under fire. I wasn’t.
On several searched firearm forums, claims are 8-12lb for a NY-1 trigger. All say it’s crap, and decreases accuracy 100%. I’d agree on that.
