Missouri conservatives rally to Akin, blast Republican “establishment”
Reuters ^ | August 24, 2012 | Nick Carey

(Reuters) – Missouri conservatives say they are rallying around U.S. Senate candidate Todd Akin despite his controversial comments about rape because they are outraged that “establishment” Republican Party leaders tried to railroad him out of the race.

A backlash has set in here in Akin’s suburban St. Louis congressional district, where supporters said the national party had no right to attempt to force out a duly-elected candidate.

Pardon me, but they're not "clinics", and the abortion killings committed in them are not "performed".

I stand corrected.

They are PLANNED PARENTHOOD offices where the only thing PLANNED is convincing as many females as possible to have the abortion, even if they just 'think' they are pregnant, and PARENTHOOD is the main thing being avoided.

and the abortion killings committed in them are not "performed".

Would you believe.... performed poorly ?

There was no "trick" in the question. It is simple and straightforward and predictable and easy to answer. Nor was the host implying that all rape victims get pregnant. Nor did anybody, Akin or the host, say one word in that exchange about abortion funding.

THEN, I am sure that the following is just a COINCIDENCE.

New Poll Finds Most Americans Are Pro-Life

"A brand new CNN survey shows a supermajority of Americans want abortions proscribed in all or most circumstances "

They don't mention FUNDING in the survey either. But don't you wonder, if it's legal and 'proscribed' (think about what the word means) for women in ALL CASES (even just because the baby is inconvenient), who do you think will be paying for it ?

HINT: Sandra Fluke and Birth Control.

Gee Phil, are you back?
Why do you presume I've been away? Are you trying to set up "a line of reasoning"? I think you aaaaaare!

I wasn't replying to you was I?
It doesn't matter if you were replying to me or not as your reply was on the board. Anybody can make a comment to your reply.

Do you have two FR Identities now?
There it is. I thought you were trying to set up "a line of reasoning" and here you are proving it.
No, I don't have two FR identities. I've always had just this one identity. My writing style is rather unique, IMO, and I would be called on it in an instant.
Where is it that you believe I've posted under another FR screen name?

Now you pick and choose a word out of a sentence and attack me again?
I'm not attacking you, I'm asking your to prove your assertion.
You said...I didn't make an uneducated comment about a Woman's body shutting down during a Rape, Akin did.
I replied with this...Where exactly in his response to Jaco did he say that?

Because I used the word “during” in my comment, which was unintentional on my part BTW...
Well there ya go...it's all explained away, isn't it.

...it doesn't mean that it couldn't be “during” the Rape, does it?
Well since they were talking about abortion and the question was a continuation of an ongoing interview about abortion (did you not know that?) then I would say he couldn't have been talking about a shut down during the rape. A woman would need to know that she was pregnant before she could get an abortion, right?
Furthermore, spontaneous abortion usually happens well after fertilization and implantation. In fact, it may even take up to 24 hours for an egg to even become fertilized. Or did you not know that either?

Are you a pretend Gynecologist who has the answer?
Nope, I'm not a Gynecologist. Does that mean I'm not able to speak out on the issue? Can I also not speak out on the issue because I'm a man as well?

Now, let's talk about your unhealthy crusade to catch me in a misstatement of fact.
Nice job of insinuation. Birds of a feather and all that. And I didn't have to "catch" you. You squatted your statement down right on the ground in front of everybody.

The ripples from Akin are affecting the entire Pond, if you catch my drift. Do you deny that, or are you living inside the same bubble where Akin resides?
Oh, joy...more slights and innuendo! You're just full of them, aren't you.
No, I'm fully aware that the "ripples" were created and are being allowed to continue.
Did you wish to make a point about those ripples? I don't see one in your comment. Or were slights and innuendo your sole purpose in asking that question?

Blah, blah, blah...yada yada yada...
Whatever. You got called on something you said and all you're doing is making nose.

It’s the stress hormones that do it without her intentions whatsoever.
I know. I've posted an easy dozen links from various sources over the last few days showing just that.
Just one reply yesterday by me...
He is talking about a physiological response or reaction of which a woman has no control. Your body automatically responds in many ways to many things.

The idea of stress impacting fertility is not a real novel, controversial issue.
People not knowing about it in advance of this controversy seems to be the new issue.
Nobody likes to have what "they know" crushed under foot for the foolishness it is.

Well I just took what you meant completely out of context, didn't I!

Maybe I'd better just shut up. lol.
No, please don't.
I have to confess that I shouldn't have tried to make a point using your comments as an example and I offer my sincere apologies.

> I can’t imagine anybody who deserves less to be hurt or blamed. She must be a heckuva person.

She really is. I keep wondering if I would have had the strength to go through what she did. She still has really rough pieces of time, and has nightmares still. Her husband is a saint we all love her and her family a lot.

God is real and sometimes uses the horrific outcomes of a sinful humanity to bring out the true diamond nature of His Children.

I won’t argue this topic any more. I’ve said all I have to say.

The bad thing about this dust-up is the circular firing squad could dampen enthusiasm.

I am hopeful that the Republicans will be smart enough to just shut up at this point (our little debates here at FR notwithstanding.) But I am fearful that Akin has opened a can of worms that will take on a life of its own. I am pretty sure everybody here at FR is rooting for him to win despite this kerfuffle...

Are you seriously calling for another Jack Ryan incident because you didn't like what Akin said?

I have no idea what you are talking about. Akin made an idiotic statement that (predictably) hurt his campaign. The damage is his own fault and nobody else's. Nevertheless, I hope he wins.

You would have to ask him to answer your question as I can't

Your best line yet. You've been repeatedly speaking for him, but now you can't? He gave an idiotic, indefensible statement. Your reluctance to defend it proves that you agree. As you should. Thanks.

Why?
There you go again...why what?

Don’t you want him to beat McCaskill?
And again...who is him?
Please form a coherent question if you wish an answer.

I'll assume you meant Akin and I'll say...I want Akin to beat McCaskill like a rented mule, if you'll pardon the expression.
Where have I implied otherwise?

You've been repeatedly speaking for him, but now you can't?
BS! I haven't been speaking for him at all. I've mostly been confronting the fake, duplicitous assertions about statements he's supposed to have made when he didn't, countering the faulty premises that are being made and providing real facts to counter specious, ignorant and all too often completely incorrect arguments about women's reproduction.
In between all of that I've actually managed to get a few of my own views and perceptions on the issue in.

Here is one such reply from yesterday.

Do you want Akin to beat McCaskill?

He gave an idiotic, indefensible statement.
Once again just because you consider his answer to the question he was asked "idiotic" and "indefensible" it doesn't make it so. It's still only your opinion...got it?
And your negative psychological repetition is no longer necessary as it isn't working. After this many days of it nonstop one would think that you would have gotten a clue by now, but...keep on and I'll just keep calling you on it.

Your reluctance to defend it proves that you agree.
What is "it"?
What I'm fighting is the BS attacks upon what Akin actually did say.
Twisting his answer into something he didn't say for "political gain" or out of a pique of envy, anger or jealousy because somebody else didn't win is one of the most contemptible things I've ever seen.

And please stop putting words in my mouth or assuming I've concluded something I haven't.

Where exactly in his response to Jaco did he say that?

And if you don't supply an answer, or won't supply an answer, you stand the risk of being nothing more than a shill, which already seems highly probable at this point based upon your statement.

I think your point is well-taken. We need to be aware of how our words can hurt another person - and particularly when there are saboteurs who want to drive a wedge between us. And we need to make sure that hurting people know we care about them.

Akin didn’t do a very good job of either thing, and there are hurts and bridges that need mended because of that. Winning the argument is less important than winning the person.

I don’t believe Akin meant to say what the saboteurs portrayed him as saying. But I also know he hasn’t done a very good job of saying what really needed to be said to the women like your friend, and perhaps none of us have.

What needs to be said is that she is the quiet hero, who bore all the shame of unanswered questions and assumptions, all the pain of somebody else’s aggression, and bore it all herself in order to pass on life to her child. I can think of no more Christ-like thing for anybody to do except perhaps dying for another person - but this was more a LIVING sacrifice. What she did was beautiful, and an example of what love can look like in a fallen world.

You were just thinking like a guy. And I was just thinking like a woman.

When I saw it from your perspective, yikes! I can’t believe I said that. lol.

Maybe the point of the kerfuffle with Akin is that we need to be aware of how another person’s perspective might frame what we say. The dem saboteurs are deliberately taking Akin’s words out of context and trying to cause hurt, which is what I’ve been responding to, because it seems like R’s and conservatives have jumped right on that bandwagon too. But women who have already been hurt by a society that doesn’t know what they’ve been through have a special reason for thinking like a woman, and an honorable man should sincerely express sorrow for having hurt them.

Maybe that is what the circular firing squad is trying to communicate. Which is a valid point even if they are totally political and self-serving in their reasons for trying to communicate anything. I guess I was responding to what I believed were selfish and short-sighted motivations on the part of the circular firing squad.

The people in the middle of that circle are the victims of “legitimate rape”, and a piece of them is torn out with each bullet shot across the circle. And that makes me sad. Seems like we could stop firing long enough to bind their wounds and usher them out of the way so they aren’t hurt any more. Or even better, just stop the circular firing altogether...

You can have your exit polls.I don’t know what they are worth at this point, they are ancient history. The only one I am concerned with is the current polling.Current polling shows that Mccaskill is still vulnerable with most any candidate we care to run except Akin. Here is just one of many.
