I wonder what their civilian hit ratio was compared to the criminal.

According to FBI statistics, the police (all agencies included) are six times more likely to shoot an innocent bystander that a civilian using a firearm in a legitimate defensive role.
This statistic hasn't changed in years, and the FBI no longer updates it.
One would wonder why.

I also read that some of the "professional" NY cops shot several civilians in the crossfire.It was during the morning rush on 34th Street near 5th Avenue - in other words there were probably between 10 and 15 thousand people running around well within range of a service Glock.
He was on the run, was already firing, he had his pick of potential hostages and the police needed to put him down quickly.
There are very few people alive on earth who could have avoided inflicting collateral injuries in that situation.
