Three U.S. Marines were injured in a shooting south of Mexico City on Friday morning, a Mexican military official told CNN Mexico.
The motive behind the attack on the American servicemen, who were on a diplomatic mission, was not immediately known.

What was the Diplomatic mission regarding?
They were out of the CIty....thus enemy territory.....were they armed?
US Embassies have Marines stationed as protection for the embassy and it’s diplomats.

Diplomatic mission? Ya right. These Marines were most likely involved in drug interdiction and just happened to get on the bad side of some cartel. Happens but we’ve done it to ourselves with the war on drugs which has done nothing but boost the profits the cartels see from running drugs and destabilized Mexico in the process as all that money buys corruption on both sides of the border.
I’m wondering if they were on the toll-road between Cuernavaca and D.F.? There is a huge switchback there called La Perla where you have to reduce your speed limit down to about 25 mph to get through it. Ambush type of area, IMHO.
Cuernavaca has long been the playground of the rich and infamous, since the Aztec days. It’s a gorgeous area and there is old money there. Probably went there to meet with other officials.

the Mexican drug cartels don’t like anyone dressed in a US military uniform inside Mexico, unless of course they are delivery money to the cartel.

ABC radio just reported that it may have been Mexican Federales that opened up on the Marines, thinking they were part of a drug cartel.
