AUSTIN, Texas (AP) -- The U.S. Anti-Doping Agency said Thursday night it will strip Lance Armstrong of his unprecedented seven Tour de France titles after he declared he was finished fighting the drug charges that threaten his legacy as one of the greatest cyclists of all time.
Travis Tygart, USADA's chief executive, said Armstrong would also be hit with a lifetime ban on Friday.

It's and old, old story. Ask Sarah Palin.
Oh, I fully understand their position. They are right - and they don’t need evidence, they are so VERY right!
As I have stated elsewhere, if there is sufficient physical evidence to substantiate the allegations, Armstrong deserves punishment. If not, he does not.
But, in justice, the process is the product.
If physical evidence is the standard for guilt or innocence, Jerry Sandusky is innocent in your mind, right?
Eye-witness testimony is evidence, and I think Armstrong knew that evidence was overwhelmingly against him.
The best thing to come out of this latest fiasco is that Greg Lemond is vindicated. The Armstrong smear machine really did a job on Lemond over the years. If there’s any justice Lemond will regain his status as the greatest American cyclist.
I don’t understand it either. It seems they have just harrassed him to the point that he is willing to walk away.
How could he prove that he wasn’t doping anyway?
I hope this decision can be reversed somehow.
Heh. I see what you did there.
Again, why would they do it? In this particular case...What is the most likely, the most reasonable assumption you could make about that?

The USADA is as incestuous as the Olympic Committee. With the length of time the samples have been held I doubt they could ever get past a Daubert hearing. This may be the reason they have fought going to court so hard.
“Good!! It is my opinion he is a liar and a big steroid freak, I hear he is an egocentric jurk. Adios . You are a disgrace to real sport sir!!”
I’m glad you believe in physical evidence. This is what USADA is supposedly built on. Big IF.
“independent arbitrators”
There are no rules of evidence in an arbitration.
“f you want to know why, then I’ll explain in another post.”
I’ve never seen a Daubert hearing on any of the scientific evidence in an arbitration. Maybe the ones I’ve been involved in were exceptions. This area of drug testing is fraught with problems and only the insiders get to agree on the methods. Take a look at USADA and WADA. I don’t completely trust them because they never seem to disagree with each other because they don’t won’t to be on the outside looking in.
Again, for any system of jurisprudence, the evidence is what matters - not the motivation.
I trust my own judgment on the evidence, not on the apparent or presumptive motive of the parties involved.
And we all should know about the word assume... LOL
Irony: to put a dope in charge of “anti-doping”.
Tygart should be fired. Instead, he’ll probably get a medal.
Everything really is upside down and backasswards these days. And I fear it will only get worse.
Well-said bump!
"This is more akin to not answering the tenth complaint arising from the same set of facts. I can't even figure out what axe the USADA has to grind by pursuing this issue into perpetuity."
The most likely reason he quit fighting (and you know this)is that he knows he is guilty and would be shown even more so that he is guilty. You know that that is the most likely scenario.
I don't know, it's just one of those things. If you're an American and you dominate a European sport for so long, you're obviously doing it illegally........
I don't need Lance Armstrong to have a cabinet full of medals for me to know that he is one of the greatest cyclists of all time.........
With this latest news, it's easy to forget that the Europeans have been the most blatant abusers of illegal sports enhancement drugs and have continuously been busted for it.
Armstrong was one of the most heavily and frequently tested cyclists in the world and never once proved positive............That's all I need to know.
