ST. ROBERT, Mo.Claire McCaskill began a sparsely attended campaign event here Thursday with this quip: "I don't know if you noticed, but my campaign has been really boring lately."
The ironic line was one of the few references the Democratic senator made to the political firestorm that erupted after her opponent, U.S. Rep. Todd Akin, used the term "legitimate rape" during a TV interview Sunday.
Rather than beat Mr. Akin over the head, Ms. McCaskill appears to have decided to let the wrecking ball he set in motion swing all by itself. And unlike the Republican establishment, which has called for Mr. Akin to step aside, Ms. McCaskill said she is in no hurry to see him go

At this point her campaign is going to be pretty boring. She can basically just stay home and not bother to campaign, and still cruise to a 55%+ victory.
They`re on a mission from God.
As long as Todd Akin is the nominee, Claire McCaskill could spend the campaign eating Grey Poupon and playing Bridge with her husband’s socialite friends and win easily.
I find it odd the the whiners choir who wants to beat this dead horse every day turns around and whine about “1 issue zealots”
Seems you two got who the 1 issues zealots are exactly backwards.
But keep beating it boys. The Dems are going to lose 4 to 8 Senate seats this year even if they hold MO.
It going to be funny watching you dead horse beaters heads explode election night when you realize how useless all your Democrat party propagandizing has been
Here is what I don’t understand if they didn’t like McCaskill before and they were going to vote for Akin
why would they vote for her now. I know if it was me even if I thought his words were harsh or stupid I would not vote for the other candidate especially if she was in the party opposite to my values.
Akin will beat her bad. After the “chicken little” hysteria passes (72 hours) no one will remember. Akin is great and we love him. He was correct in his statement ( Medically correct) and it is sinking in that the party establishment including rush and vannity suckered in because they are stupid to agree that we should kill babies because mommy changed her mind and she has buyer remorse. So let us kill the baby?
Probably because there were hopes that he wasn't as stupid as McCaskill, but when he opened up his mouth, he removed all doubt, that he was as dumb as McCaskill.
What's that saying better to vote for devil that you know, than the devil you don't.
Plus his hubris doesn't help, and hasn't it been odd that Akin has been attacking the Republican "establishment" rather than McCaskill.
Beware of conventional wisdom. McCaskill surrorts a man who actually celebrates wholesale abortion and sees nothing wrong with the barbaric partial birth abortion procedure. She supports a man who has increased the national debt over five trillion dollars and has stagnated the American economy. She has never criticized Obama or shown one iota of creative or independent thinking. Atkin has apologized and should not be so readily dismissed if he starts to attack his vapid opponent and her barbaric master.
You have to hand it to her, Claire engineered this whole thing. She spent $1.5-million an “anti-Akin” ads to dog-whistle the Democrats into crossing over and voting for him. She knew Akin would stick his foot in it, and she was right.
Akin is not ready for prime time. All he had to do was keep his mouth shut and he would have won, but he opened his mouth with his crackpot theories, and he suddenly became toxic.
So don't blame us "whiners", why don't you blame Akin. Isn't a big conservative principle is responsibility, and shouldn't Akin be held responsible for his actions?
THANK YOU!! How many more Akin threads are going to be posted here with all the “outrage” he’s still in the race.
Get over it!! Move on!!
So, that doesn't change the fact that Akin is an arrogant, self-serving buffoon, that turned a sure win to a losing proposition.
Get over it!! Move on!!
You sound like James Carville in 1998 during the Clinton impeachment.
You are James Carville.
Instead of responding in a snit, try actually taking the time to READ the article I linked to first.
That poll is great news! Let’s hope it is right. If it is not and he loses, those who stood behind him after his political blunder will own that defeat and the national results of it and the GOPe and the RINOs will appear to have been the savior (something many of us conservatives were hoping to avoid happening).
We need to take responsibility as conservatives.
Akin owns the blunder.
If he wins he and his supporters own that victory.
If he loses he and his supporters own that defeat and the national results of that defeat.
