Chicago Official Backpedals After Saying Reagan Deserves a ‘Special Place in Hell’

A Chicago-area official apologized after saying former President Ronald Reagan deserves a “special place in hell” for his part in stepping up the war on drugs.

Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle, a Democrat, said her language Tuesday was “inflammatory,“ but stood by her criticism about the ”failure of the war on drugs to end illegal drug use or sales in this country.”

According to the Chicago Tribune, Preckwinkle was defending the city of Chicago’s recent move to decriminalize possession of small amounts of marijuana, allowing police officers to write tickets instead of make arrests. She said drug treatment should be part of the health care system, not criminal justice and said Reagan deserves a “special place in hell” for his role in “making drugs political.” Reagan, who died in 2004, was born in Illinois.

Preckwinkle’s remarks prompted gasps from the audience, the newspaper reported.

“What? You didn’t like that?” she responded.

It’s nice that he offered Reagan a special place in Chicago. Civility is not dead after all.

I thought the “war” on drugs was more Elder Bush than Reagan. Reagan’s war on drugs was Nancy telling everyone to just say no.

“Reagan deserves a “special place in hell” for his role in “making drugs political.””

Not only is this woman a low-class hack, she doesn’t know bleep about the history of the subject. The War on Drugs as we know it today really began with LBJ, and escalated under Nixon. Every President since then - Democrat and Republican -, has taken the same basic approach. It is true Reagan got some noticeably strict legislation passed into law, but the issue was no more or less political than it was under any of the previous administrations.

I guess she believes in Obama’s approach......refuse to protect our borders, let a bunch of illegals in from God knows where and arm the cartels with thousands of ‘automatic weapons’.

Rolling Stone Magazine, Mother Jones, Nancy Pelosi, Barney Frank, and many others on the political left have been quite critical of Obama for his war against medical marijuana, with some of them saying that he's worse than Reagan, W., or any other President:

The biggest current obstacles to medical marijuana are President Obama and the progressives on the Supreme Court

And when the Colombians turned Miami of the 1980’s into Chicago of the 1920’s it was Reagan’s DOJ that helped to clean it up. South Floridians who were not involved in the drug trade were thankful.

If a white person criticizes a black President, its racism. If a black person critisizes a white President, its OK.

If the Democrats would stop buying drugs, there’d be less of a drug problem.

Preckwinkle? That can’t be a real name. None of the males of that family would have survived junior high

War on drugs?

I have to think about Tom Clancy's Clear and Present Danger.

Too much money involved to really put up a real fight. Gun Walker is a sympton.

I had a preckwinkle removed once. Cost me a $25 copay, and they gave some Demerol to take home.

The cocaine cowboys and the violence was orchestrated by a woman.

She named her son Michael Corleone.

One cannot get more typically Democrat than Toni P.

Agreed. I wasn’t being critical of Reagan’s policies in my previous post. I was just trying to point out that the twit in Chicago has no idea of what she’s talking about.
