Let’s hope Akin stays, if only to p*** off the GOPe and the herd animals that call themselves “conservative.”

This is Rove’s fault? Seriously?

So now we have RINO Sarah Palin and RINO Mark Levin and countless other actual true-blue conservatives begging this man to drop out and they’re ALL RINO????

Akin is a very nice conservative who said some incredibly stupid things and now cannot win this seat. He is perhaps the only person on the planet who cannot defeat Claire McCaskill. Remember, he is her picked candidate and his continuance in the race is fully endorsed and supported by all Democrats. Any number of very conservative replacements are ready to step up to the plate and will win running away.

Does it not strike you as odd that your position is the same as the lunatic lefty crowd?

RINO Rove is at it again.

...interesting, Akin and the conservatives urging him to stay in ...are only making Rove look better by comparison. Their egos are getting in the way - they are not standing up for any principles - just standing in the way of a conservative winning the senate seat in Mo.

Not surprisingly, you left out this part...

Participants in Thursday's meetings, though, said support for Akin was not universal among conservatives.

Richard Land, president of the Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission at the Southern Baptist Convention, said that while Akin misspoke and has been treated “unfairly,” he should still drop out.

“I think it splits the social conservative movement,” Land told CNN. “Some people say, ‘Look, he is our guy, we are going to stand with him. We think he can win.’ And some people are saying, ‘The odds are this is a fatal blow at least in this election cycle.’ For the good of the movement, for the good of the pro life cause, for the good of taking control of the senate for pro life forces, he needs to do what's best for the cause and throw himself on his shield.”

One can understand why these folks are “secret” if they are dense enough to encourage traitor akin to stay in.

He is one piece of $HIT and does not give a damn if a person is a RINO or DIM....all he wants is an “R” next to their name so they will vote Republican. He will sale his soul to the Devil.

Rove wants a nice, safe, compliant moderate in that race.

RINO Rove is at it again.

Another mouthy moron heard from; no wonder Akin appeals to you.

The PAC run by that "RINO Rove" was supporting Akin financially until he committed political suicide and decided to try to take the rest of the party down with him.

AKIN--and ONLY AKIN--is the problem here.

The people calling for Akin to bow out understood the ramifications of Akin’s comment and the new Rasmussen poll showing Akin down by 10 points after having been up by 10 vindicates their early assessment. (Note that Rasmussen is one of the very few objective pollsters)

That Akin didn’t “get it” is testament to either his ignorance/hubris/pride/stupidity/selfishness - take your pick.

Maybe Akin can win, but it’s NOT a sure thing. Far from it. And along the way, there will be many bumps in the road - for all Republicans. One of these bumps, which is major, is that people with strong pro-life convictions are going to be lumped in with Akin and his bizarre views on rape and conception.

What is a sure thing is that another MO Republican with strong pro-life convictions and NO baggage would end Obama rubber stamp McCaskill’s career.

Akin isn’t the only person in MO who could carry the pro-life banner, but right now he’s acting like it.

Akin is using standing on principle as the rationale for being spiteful and staying in to punish the people who publicly called for him to get out. From this article, it sounds like those who are recommending he stay in the race are acting out of spite as well. They want to teach Karl Rove a lesson, by golly, and they’re willing to go down in flames to do so.

If principle were the be all and end all, Akin would take the course of action that would GUARANTEE beyond a shadow of a doubt that a pro-lifer replaces a pro-abortioner in the Senate. And that course of action is stepping down.

Council for National Policy (CNP) is designed to be a "social conservative" answer to the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR). Membership is by invitation only and its membership list is no longer made public.

The CNP describes itself as "an educational foundation organized under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. We do not lobby Congress, support candidates, or issue public policy statements on controversial issues. Our over 600 members include many of our nation's leaders from the fields of government, business, the media, religion, and the professions. Our members are united in their belief in a free enterprise system, a strong national defense, and support for traditional western values. They meet to share the best information available on national and world problems, know one another on a personal basis, and collaborate in achieving their shared goals."

Interestingly enough John Ashcroft, who has said Todd Akin should quit the race, is a known prior member of CNP.

Wow! RINO Rove used his magic to make Akin say stupid things!

I’ve despise Rove since GWB’s first term, on the theory that a dead man should have been able to demolish Algore, and yet Algore won the popular vote. But Akin’s problems aren’t due to Rove. They are due to his big mouth & stupidity, which is hard to correct.

Never mind the harpies.

Thanks for the article. These meetings were a seminal moment in his campaign. They could have ended it but it looks like they’re sticking with him.

Ignore the comments about Rove, that’s the kind of thing reporters would elicit for interest. Serious people don’t view issues through personalities.

I’d say he’s on a path to lose by 3 to 5%, but these guys are wiser than me.
The PAC money will come back if he does well and needs it.

Missouri doesn’t have an effective voter id law- that hurts him.

Hmmm, I see Akin has the hottest ad team in politics today, Rex Elsass’s The Strategy Group for Media.

In 2010 they worked for winners Kasich, Boozman, and Rand Paul- who started off 20 points behind.
