Rocker DEE SNIDER has lashed out at U.S. vice presidential hopeful PAUL RYAN for allegedly using his popular tune WE'RE NOT GONNA TAKE IT during a campaign stop in Pennsylvania. Ryan, who is currently touring America to support Mitt Romney's bid for the White House, reportedly tried to boost morale during a political rally on Tuesday (21Aug12) by blaring the classic Twisted Sister hit to pump up the crowd. However, Snider has taken issue with the politician's use of the song and has lodged a formal complaint with Ryan's camp. A statement from the 57 year old reads, "I emphatically denounce Paul Ryan's use of my band Twisted Sister's song 'We're Not Gonna Take It' in any capacity. There is almost nothing he stands for that I agree with except the use of the (home exercise regime) P90X." This is not the first time a Republican Party candidate has been reprimanded for their choice of music - earlier this month (Aug12) rockers Silversun Pickups fired off a cease-and-desist letter ordering Romey to stop playing their track Panic Switch.

My guess would be that they don’t want their music used for any political purpose.
This is actually rather surprising to me. I was recently on an 80’s rocker buying binge and purchased the “Stay Hungry” CD. I was rather shocked at some of the themes of the songs, pleasently shocked. Many of the songs on that CD contain christian undertones.....
I did some research and found that many sites reference that he is a Christian and tries to live by Christian values/principles.

I suggest “God Bless the USA” as a good Republican campaign song. Then again, liberals would have a meltdown over the use of such music.

It is an affirmation of the free market. These losers “protest” because they THINK it gives them PR for their live performances (lipsink shows?) since they do not own the rights to the songs.
They are too stupid to understand that they are closing the wallets of the majority of americans.
He would get more pr by performing live for ryan. Then again, I never knew twisted sister was into homosexual “marriage.”

the earlier stuff from Black magic Woman, Oh well, for Your Love and so forth are understated but pretty historical for the 67-73 Brit era
and I also like Buckingham..I find him a quirky but underrated guitar player

Yup. A lot of it comes down to the left/right brain thing. Those drawn to the political Right tends toward Joe Friday ‘Just the facts. Mamn’ thought where 1+1=2. The political left gets the dreamers and (way) outside the box types. Those are the creative types that think in terms of ‘What if’ rather than dealing with the reality as it stands.
It’s that outside the box mindset that fosters much of the ‘artistic’’ nature of the left. AKA, you don’t see a lot od conservative art communes or the like. Likewise, you don’t see a whole lot of artsy types real big in self reliance or personal responsibility.
Of course there are exceptions. But as a whole this has always held true. For every Charlie Daniels there are 100,000 Tom Morellos or Dee Sniders.

Playing music at a campaign event merely requires ASCAP, BMI or SESAC royalties be paid to the songwriters’ copyright holder at a fixed rate. That copyright holder has no veto; the holder of the copyright in the recording has no say and doesn’t get paid. When you put music in a TV or radio commercial, you have to negotiate with the holder of the copyright in the recording and that holder can just say no; the songwriters’ copyright holder gets a different royalty.
In all events, the artist has no direct say and doesn’t get directly paid unless he owns the copyright in question; usually he’s entitled to some payment or consent rights under his contract with the copyright owner.
He's not a bad guy. I still remember him humiliating Sen Al Gore in the Tipper hearings. ("Senator Gore, if Mrs. Gore found images of sado-masicism in my song lyrics, its because that's what she was looking for...")

A publicist for the Silversun Pickups said the band does not agree that the use of the song is covered under the blanket licenses. Copyright experts say such licenses, usually bought by restaurants and other businesses that play recorded music, do protect the campaign from many copyright complaints, but a politician can still be sued under the federal trademark law for false advertising if the use of the song implies that the musician has endorsed the candidate.
I suppose the candidate could always make a statement or banner saying musician doesn't endorse this campaign...sounds silly doesn't it
sad fact..creative people are emotional driven more often than not..and that pushes them to that sort of reasoning and they are lemmings..they look around first to see how to answer
He should use red white and blue from skynyd instead... they are the good guys!
