Rocker DEE SNIDER has lashed out at U.S. vice presidential hopeful PAUL RYAN for allegedly using his popular tune WE'RE NOT GONNA TAKE IT during a campaign stop in Pennsylvania. Ryan, who is currently touring America to support Mitt Romney's bid for the White House, reportedly tried to boost morale during a political rally on Tuesday (21Aug12) by blaring the classic Twisted Sister hit to pump up the crowd. However, Snider has taken issue with the politician's use of the song and has lodged a formal complaint with Ryan's camp. A statement from the 57 year old reads, "I emphatically denounce Paul Ryan's use of my band Twisted Sister's song 'We're Not Gonna Take It' in any capacity. There is almost nothing he stands for that I agree with except the use of the (home exercise regime) P90X." This is not the first time a Republican Party candidate has been reprimanded for their choice of music - earlier this month (Aug12) rockers Silversun Pickups fired off a cease-and-desist letter ordering Romey to stop playing their track Panic Switch.
Why do rock and rollers complain over use of their music by Republicans but never complain about Democrats using their music?
I remember the group Heart complained about Sarah Palin using their music in the last campaign.
I heard that the rock band Rush was taking action against Rush Limbaugh to stop him from using their music.
For as much as you hear old rock and roll tunes in commercials, movies, TV shows, etc. nowadays, clearly they are happy to give such permission for use of their music most of the time.
I would think that any publicity would be welcomed by this has been.
Why don’t these candidates - and also Rush and Hannity - use music from artists who support them or at least support free speech?????
I am tried of this petty sniping. Screw them.
I’m sure there are MANY artists who would appreciate the support and publicity
We’ll just make our money off the greedy capitalist system, then tell you how government is the best thing for you! Don’t use my music you evil, capitalist-supporting pig! Just buy my records!
I think I have the gist of what Dee’s saying...right?

What a putz.
The Who’s lyrics would be much better anyway...We won’t get fooled again.
Has been? You mean, "never was".
If Paul Ryan bought the MP3 file, who’s to say he can’t play it? I don’t get this. Is there a license they have to get in order to play a song in public, like they have with videos? Do MP3 files come with a disclaimer saying it’s only for personal private use and can’t be played in public?
What’s the legal basis for an artist wanting to control where a person can play an MP3 file after that artist sold it to them?
You pay the required fee to ASCAP or BMI, you get to play the song.
It’s about as simple as that. The deal does not come with a
political override button.
Ryan will probably quit using the song though just to stop him from whining.
At least the rest of us know not to buy anything or play anything from Twisted Sister again.
You mean Dee Snider the new spokesman for Stanley Steamer commercials, I kid you not. “LOSER”
Hannity was criticized by Bruce Hornsby for using “The Way it Is” on his show.
I believe prog talker Stephanie Miller used to use We’re Not Gonna Take it on her show but it changed to Walking on Sunshine when Obama was elected.
In the video for We’re Not Gonna Take it, Mark Metcalf who played Niedemeyer in Animal House plays the father of a young boy—and at the end of the song itself he can be heard repeating a line from the film “A pledge pin??? On your
uniform???”—along with “you are a disgusting slob!”

In the film, Niedemeyer orders Flounder to “drop and give me 20” (pushups) in a pile of horse dung.
I read a post from someone that basically said that if a music guy like Dee Snider injects himself into the public debate, then his music becomes public property, and copyright should no longer apply.
Knock yourself out, petulant sister Dee. Like anyone in the real world cares.
“Ryan will probably quit using the song though just to stop him from whining.”
Awe heck, he should just use this as an excuse to TURN UP THE VOLUME!
Isn’t that kinda what the song is all about?
