“I had no idea why I was being called in,” said Ms. Hood, who is 49 years old. “I couldn’t figure out what I could have possibly done wrong on my tax return...They said, “You’re being investigated for mortgage fraud.’”

Ms. Hood was surprisingly candid about her family’s financial disaster. I had approached her in the courthouse hall during a recess in the mortgage-fraud trial where she’d been called to testify. I was expecting a “no comment.” But she not only spoke with me in the hall, but later on the phone for an hour.

Sometimes the banks takes a long time to take the house back. There a person down the street from that is over three years now. You you keep insurance and property tax paid they are less likely to throw you out.

Don’t feel sorry for these trough feeders. The IRS still loves her. She+husband are moving to the Federale boom town Washington DC. Getting promoted !!!! To live off your tax dollars. And WTF is her job description? It looks like 40 hours or (a lot) less of useless paper shuffling but for $130000 a year kind of the minimum Fed salary there for a “Senior high mucktey muck”. The Feds are one big Amos and Andy show these days.

“She is now in the middle of a move to Washington D.C., where she has become a senior analyst of planning and strategy for the agency. Her husband, she said, is working for an East Coast restaurant chain, and they are slowly recovering after shedding their debts in bankruptcy court.

I squat in my house once per day, sometimes twice.

I know exactly what to think this thief and her husband ripped the bank off and us taxpayers too. She had money in her 401(k) -—enough to have covered her expenses in their ‘dire’ circumstances. I am not impressed with her honesty or integrity. My best guess she is a democrat and thinks someone owes her. when things went south they should have done a short sell if she didn’t want to borrow against her 401(k). Move to an apartment or smaller home but NOOOOO I love my big house... LOSER is what I think

One of the reasons they’re less likely to throw you out is it’s better to have a tenant (i.e. the homeowner) in the house as a safety net for protection of the property. The homeowner is less likely to trash the place, and it’s not vacant which can cause all sorts of vandalism.

Just because she’s an IRS agent doesn’t mean she’s done anything wrong. Foreclosures are rampant.

I watch a lot of HGTV, especially House Hunters. Yesterday I saw an episode about two journalists who were moving to DC and they were looking at $700,000 homes. I looked at what an experienced journalist could expect to make in DC and found 75k was about tops...so how can two very young people afford a $700,000 on a $150,000 salary? Sounds like the mortgage industry is doing a take two on letting unqualified people buy big homes they can't afford.
