McCaskill is pretty much a lock in to win now, mind as well give this a shot, unless Akin still has a shot to win(Which I really really doubt) if he’s going to lose anyway why not try something else

Steelman is excluded. It would have to be someone exciting, with name-recognition. Kit Bond comes to mind because Missouri voters know him, but Ann Wagner is another possibility. She’s brilliant, strong pro-life record, highly intelligent and charismatic. I would back her in a second.

Kit Bond is the only one with even a slight chance of pulling off a write-in, but I doubt it.

Now if Akin can get off the ballot by September 25, I've said several times here that I think Ann Wagner would be the likely replacement, with Kit Bond as the next most likely.

I missed it. I stopped watching after the unbelievably stupid treatment Greta gave the Radford, VA baker who declined Biden’s visit.

Perhaps she's calling for a 3rd candidate to convince Akins that he doesn't have a prayer.A write in candidate would have a tough time in a tossup state like MO.

At this point, Akin doesn’t have a chance in hell of getting elected, I strongly doubt whether he can even get 40% of the vote at this point, so I would happily jump over Kit Bond if he was willing, load him up with cash, and then go on a statewide tour telling voters not to vote for Tweedlydee(McCaskill) and Tweedlydumbass(Akin).

Isn’t September 25th kind of late in the game? If this guy hasn’t resigned til now he’s not going to do it. It depends if this blows over, I doubt it because McCaskill will use what he said over and over and over again, a 3rd party might be the only option(But I still think we have time to see how things work out) it doesn’t even have to be Steelman(I know some here don’t care for her) pick anyone I don’t care, I just want that Senate seat, we need it to defeat Obamacare

I was initially against a 3rd party run, but after thinking about it some more, I’ve changed my mind.

No, not because I think a third party candidate/write in candidate can prevent McCaskill from another 6 years in the senate. I think that ship has sailed, that senate seat is gone. Which is pretty amazing considering that 6 month ago she was dead man walking.

But I think the key now is to save the electoral vote for Romney. Because right now as it stands, Romney/Ryan are going to have to tough time campaigning in MO. Because they know everything they show up they will be linked to Akin. They can’t share a stage with him, they can’t even be in the same zip code as him. Because once they are caught on the same photo with him, that’s how toxic he is. So the end result is that they are going to avoid MO as much as possible, and they could cost them the state.

So a third party candidate backed by the Republicans at least accomplishes the goal of inoculating the others Republicans, and Romney, from Akin. Because if they support a candidate running against Akin, they can’t be linked to Akin.

So now in my mind a third party candidate is actually not a bad idea, not for the senate seat, but all the other races in MO, congressional any national.

NRSC needs to pour money into a 3rd party candidate. Is it even possible to get a third party on the ballot at this point?

I wonder if Sarah Palin will support Ron Paul if he decides to go third party.

And why not?

Is there a parallelism here?

Consistency?

Hypocrisy?

Palin is also a "bedwetter".

This is certainly possible. A strong 3rd party candidate like Bond could drop Akin’s support to less than 15% overnight. With money getting tight and supporters running for the hills, he could feasibly be forced into quitting the race.

Ron Paul? What evidence do you have that she's recently experienced a blow to the head?

“At this point, Akin doesn’t have a chance in hell of getting elected...”

I can’t argue that. Sarah doesn’t come out that strong against Republican nominees unless there’s a darn good reason. How anyone can still still think that Akin can still win is mind-boggling.

Yes, we should be loyal to our party when they screw up...but NOT when it sinks the ticket.

Is this it?

Will Palin found a viable Conservative Party?

Is this the birth of the new “Conserve America” Political Party?

Will this party run a suite of Candidates in 2014 in other States?

I read that his staff consists of his wife and his son. They’re probably as looney as he is.

At this point we really have nothing to lose by going 3rd party. As I understand it Steelman cannot run as a write in candidate because she lost..pick someone to be a 3rd party candidate and run with it. What’s the worst that can happen, they lose, well, Akin is going to lose now so why not take that risk.
Your absolutely right, Romney/Ryan cannot even get close to Akin now, Romney already told him to get out of the race and Akin is already talking smack about Romney for suggesting it so no way they share the same stage now.
Wouldn’t it be great if somehow Sarah Palin were to move to Missouri and run for the seat herself..wait is that possible..Ok I assume you have to be a resident of the state to actually run there

The problem is not “our Sarah,” as in Palin. The problem is OUR Sarah, the one here is Missouri, as in Steelman. She has not done well even in primaries her last couple tries, losing the governor primary four years ago—and then pissing Republicans off by not really supporting the winning nominee—and losing (finishing third, even) this year in the Senate primary. If there is going to be an alternate candidate this fall, whether as the replacement, as a write-in, or as a third-party, I don’t think it’s going to be Steelman. Palin would have little impact on her chances, just as she had little impact on Steelman’s run this summer.
