Facts of Shipley case lead to some conclusions, much speculation(Gunwalker)

A series of stories developed from documents received and analyzed in this column over the past few days have resulted in some answers and more questions regarding John Shipley, a former FBI agent convicted of illegal gun dealing. A remarkable conclusion from a source close to his case is convinced “ATF was directly responsible for the sale of [a .50 caliber rifle] to Jonatan Lopez through their informant Paul Lee on 12/19/2007” in the parking lot of an El Paso gun store.

Readers of this series have seen how Lopez, a Mexican national with a Texas driver license, purchased the rifle Shipley had previously sold to a former sheriff’s deputy then working as a detention officer. It was then documented how the suspect had been under ATF surveillance, and how the FFL informant had been cooperating with law enforcement. A conclusion that ATF authorized the illegal sale was not only reasonable, it was practically inescapable, which leads to a further reasonable assumption about why the government resorted to prejudicial tactics to convict Shipley. Next, readers saw how conspiracy indictments indicated sanctioned gunwalking and government lies. Lastly, a bizarre twist about the trafficker emerged, adding to the baffling task of making sense out of Shipley’s ordeal.

“After conducting a controlled delivery of the Barrett...the ATF allowed Lopez to traffic the firearm into Mexico,” the source observed, noting “this is the same ‘gun walking technique that the ATF used in operations ‘Wide Receiver’ and ‘Fast and Furious.’

Barrett .50s are not common. This case certainly raises all sorts of flags.

Huh? After we went through months of hoops differentiating WR from F&F, now we're reading that this 50 was "lost" via Gunwalking during the Bush/Ashcroft era now?

I still say arguing F&F was different from WR was the wrong tact.

It should be that the ATF is uncontrollable and must be disassembled immediately as they are dangerous under any R or D administration.

Co-opt the liberals now while they're under fire to disband the Reno Army.
