U.S. President Barack Obama issued a direct warning to Syrian President Bashar al-Assad on Monday, saying he should heed U.S. warnings to neither use nor move chemical or biological weapons, CNN reported.
We cannot have a situation where chemical or biological weapons are falling into the hands of the wrong people, Obama told reporters at the White House. "We have been very clear to the Assad regime -- but also to other players on the ground -- that a red line for us is we start seeing a whole bunch of chemical weapons moving around or being utilized.
He added, That would change my calculus; that would change my equation.
Obama said that U.S. officials are monitoring the situation "very carefully" and have put together a number of contingency plans.
We have communicated in no uncertain terms with every player in the region that that's a red line for us and that there would be enormous consequences if we start seeing movement on the chemical weapons front or the use of chemical weapons, CNN quoted him as having said.
Obama's remarks come after he said last month that the Syrian leadership will be held accountable by the international community and the United States should they make the tragic mistake of using those weapons.

“Enoormous consequences” - “I may have to drop golf that weekend if you start using whole bunches of these things without giving them to Nasrallah or the Brotherhood”.
*I* am the operator of my pocket calculator.
Boy is planning his next WH concert.
He used to be called Jack Kelly. But then a drug cartel got ahold of his girl friend the ex-junky prostitute and tortured her to death. He found them and killed them all, but he had to change his name, his face and get a new girlfriend, Michelle. Now he’s The Man Without Remorse, or at least The Man Without a Long-form Birth Certificate.
Strafe all the civilians you want (they’re always guilty of something), but use any mustard gas and I’ll...I’ll...I’ll...do something.
“Lets hope Putin is also ensuring containment.”
Da. No worries, American buddy. I keep my eyes on them (damn. Dropped a kopek. Where is it? [two hours later]) Not see anything happen. All kopasetiksky.
Gawrsh. Where’d those come from?
obviously he intends to nuke Damascus.
He added, That would change my calculus; that would change my equation. WTF does this mean??? Maybe he will have to switch to playing golf at Andrews AFB on Saturday and Ft. Belvoir on Sunday.
:’) Assad won’t be the one using them.
According to this new Plan 'R' if Romney & Ryan wins the election... Obama considers them the 'wrong hands' and we are to attack all the Red States.
You may have missed my point.
We’re NOT depending on Putin to do our job for us, we’re just hoping he recognizes that it is in his interest to keep a lid on Chem weapons, too!
It would help if we and they BOTH told Syria’s factions that any trafic in the vicinity of the Chem weapons, would be grounds for blasting either faction.
Russia warns West on Syria after Obama threats

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov warned the West on Tuesday against unilateral action on Syria a day after President Barack Obama said U.S. forces could intervene if his Syrian counterpart deployed chemical weapons against rebels trying to topple him.
“Just keep on killing your own countrymen with conventional munitions until after our election, okay buddy?”
Think it is safe to say that Obama has never solved a complex calculus equation his entire life. For starters, his statement clearly defines that Chemical WMD use by Syria was not in his original calculus equation (ie - the Pentagon plan he picked). Which was obvious when they were thinking of supporting a Turkish invasion of Syria due to the loss of a Turkish plane. That was just plain stupid. Now if Assad's WMD had been in his original equation, it would have been a variable or a function within the overall equation.
If he had formulated his original calculus equation correctly with all the known and relevant variables and functions, the Syrian situation would not be the clusterpuck that is has become.
Look, I think you ask this as a reaction to my comments. I don’t approve of Syria passing on WMDs, but I have absolutely no trust whatsoever that this president is acting on behalf of Israel’s safety.
I don’t want chemical weapons used against Israel. I don’t want there to be a massive weapons cache in Southern Lebanon either. I haven’t cared for Syria’s massing of troops in the region down near Israel, and moving them away, then back, then away again.
None of this has been addressed by Bush or Obama. Bush did take down the leadership of Iraq which was flouting the stability of the region I think there’s a better than even chance Syria got WMDs. That was not addressed then, and hasn’t been since.
Israel is already under the gun. And yet Obama and others, still try to pressure Israel into making concessions.
Well, I’m just not buying what this clown is selling.
It’s all about him donchaknow?
I’ll wager in the week before the election.
Well..., I do agree with you in part, but chemical weapons are a big deal. The fact that you can counteract the chemicals, IF YOU KNOW WHICH ONES YOU’VE BEEN HIT WITH, is not an optimal circumstance. I’m sure you agree with that.
As for whether they have the munitions under control, there’s no way they could. These guys toss a few containers in the back of a truck and they are transported along with chickens or whatever else they are moving.
How do you keep track of that? Well, you don’t.
We agree on that. We probably agree that these agents are more than likely already in Southern Lebanon, and perhaps on the West Bank and Gaza too.
If those chemicals get introduced into Israel, Israel will take out Syrian leadership and set off a fuse [just flowery descriptive prose here] that will blow up a strip about to to five miles wide across Southern Lebanon.
Whoa, hold the phone. For years we were told while Bush was in office that there were no chemical or biological weapons in the Middle East.
Now suddenly, Syria has some that Obammie is calling them out on? How did these magically appear in the hands of a crazy? Perhaps, just perhaps they were there all along, and it now fits the agenda of Obammie to tell all and to make him look strong and powerful to keep him in the White House.
