Jay Leno on Tonight Show Layoffs: 'We've Been Taken Over By Bain Capital' By Noel Sheppard Created 08/21/2012 - 10:18am
Jay Leno on Monday addressed the recent announcement that there have been numerous layoffs at NBC's Tonight Show forcing him to take a pay cut to save some of his staff.
Feeling the need to take a cheap shot at presumptive Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney, Leno quipped, Turns out now we've been taken over by Bain Capital" (video follows with transcript and commentary):
Leno began his opening monologue saying, Welcome to the Tonight Show, or as Comcast calls us, The Expendables. That's right.
After some laughter and applause, Leno continued, As you may have heard, our parent company has downsized the Tonight Show. You know, and we've consistently been number one in the ratings. And if you know anything about our network, that kind of thing is frowned upon.
And more bad news, Leno said. Turns out now we've been taken over by Bain Capital. Oh, I can't believe that.
I guess if you're a late night television host, it's imperative that every gag involve Romney somehow.
But Leno wasn't finished.
See, I knew something was going on, he continued. Friday morning, I woke up and there was a peacock head in my bed.
But the good news, said Leno, the Tonight Show, it's still free to get into the Tonight Show. Bad news: its 100 bucks to get out. Okay? So please, have your money ready. Exact change if possible, though.
Mort Sahl, Mark Russell, Tom Lehrer, and Tom and Dickie Smothers were leftist propaganda, too.
But still incredibly funny stuff done by exceptional comedians.
Oh, is that what it was? I thought it was a snorkle.
Jay Lenos Wife: The Koran Is More Liberal With Women Than The Bible
(Examiner) At the 26th annual Dallas Womens Foundations luncheon, Mavis Leno, wife of talk shows comedian Jay Leno, shared with the audience accounts about her journey into activism to help empower Afghani women and girls under the Taliban regime.
When asked about the role of Islam in the status of women in Afghanistan, Leno confirmed that the Quran is more liberal with women than the Bible. She added that Prophet Mohammad was married to a wealthy and powerful woman, implying that Islam has nothing against empowering women; on the contrary it is a religion that supports womens rights. Culture, on the other hand, affects the interpretation of religious texts which results in assaulting womens rights.
Welcome to Obama’s economy, Leno.
He’s from Baahston what do ya expect?
Carson: Jimmy Carter gaves us what Herbert Hoover promised us..two cars in every garage (because of high gas prices at the time)
I wrote on another thread - Seems that he pokes at the President quite a bit. The one the other night had something like:
The President is going non-stop in his re-election campaign in order to secure another four years in office. When asked why he felt so strongly about getting re-elected he replied What? Good luck in me trying to find another job in THIS economy
Boy did I set off a storm!
-I don’t watch tv, other than a few chosen shows (Pawn Shop) or reruns of old series, like Foyle’s War, for example. I certainly don’t watch “late night” shows-—haven’t watched them since Johnny Carson hung it up.
However, in today’s world, I didn’t find that particular joke (which I read about, but didn’t see), was that offensive.
Seems to me that it’s okay to lighten up once in a while. I haven’t as some of you seem to have been, counting how many dim jokes, how many republican jokes.
That was my point. Good grief, our world as we know it is crumbling around us—but I don’t think a joke about a politician will be the cause of the fall.
So, Leno is saying:
“If things are this bad now with Romney as the nominee, just
think what they will be like with him as president!”
I'm suspicious of even propaganda that promotes a point of view I agree with. That Donald Duck cartoon is brilliant, and there were a lot of things about the Third Reich that were ridiculous. Disney was right to ridicule them. Still, the Third Reich, taken as a whole, was not ridiculous. It was demonic. There was a time to laugh, and a time to drop bombs.
Unbelievable! That’s beyond foolish!
Liberalism may truly be a mental disorder.
Anyway Bain can, they should get Obamacommies like Leno off the air.
I bet Conan O’Brien’s getting some vicarious enjoyment out of this.
As a 1%er, Jay Leno can AFFORD to take a pay cut while others are losing their jobs.
From what I’ve heard, his savings are on the order of a billion dollars because he banked his Tonight Show money and lived off of his stand up comedian income.
Joe Biden recently told an audience HE is part of the middle class. The media doesn't CARE.
OK, OK.
Comcast owns 51%, GE only owns 49%.
I didn’t know that, but it explains a lot.
