How the Tea Party Beat Occupy Wall Street
Market Watch ^ | August 21, 2012 | David Weidner

Posted on 08/21/2012 6:16:39 AM PDT by lbryce

About a year ago I called Occupy Wall Street a “tea party with brains.”

Today, I’m the one who needs his head examined.

Occupy Wall Street, the movement critical of banks, the super rich and their influence in our politics and daily lives, has failed to live up to its promise as an important social and political force.

Though its core message — that big finance and greed undermines society and corrupts our political system — is fundamentally correct, Occupy hasn’t lived up to the standard set by the tea party in its ability to turn grievance into a political force capable of disrupting the establishment.

The Occupy protests started on Sept. 17 of last year near Wall Street. They triggered a wave of Occupys in the U.S. including major actions in Oakland, Calif., Boston and Los Angeles. Media attention followed. Polls showed a 43% of Americans agreed with OWS’ beliefs. See poll on OWS from October .

Then the crackdowns began. Protesters at Zuchotti Park were uprooted in a midnight sweep by the police. The confrontations with police went on for weeks, now months. Support waned. The tactics turned people off.

As Occupy camps across the country fell, so did the movement’s visibility. Occupy Wall Street disappeared from the nightly news, the New York Times, the Huffington Post and the blogs. OWS promised a big summer revival, but the actions of the last three months haven’t received much in the way of mainstream coverage even in a presidential year.

Contrast OWS with the tea party. We’ve already heard about how that anti-tax movement has disrupted the moderate Republican establishment.

The Tea Party can defeat the Democratic Party, and accomplish Occupy White House the same way it vanquished Occupy Wall Street

Occupy was a group of Union thugs homeless ne’er do wells and kids with nothing better to do. Crapping on the lawns of parks and fornicating in tents does not turn on the majority of the electorate.

The Tea Party leaves an area cleaner than they found it, they do not need aremed security guards to keep them from destroying everything in their path. They are Americans with a legitimate concern. And they have jobs.

Tea Partiers are responsible producers.

OWS are 'rat funded looters. They are in fact unsustainable.

No need -- it's pretty clear from this column that it is as empty and vacuous as one might suspect.

No contest! Never was!

On one side you have patriotic, responsible Americans, & on the other, a bunch of whiny, filthy, babies.

One leaves the Mall spotless while the other leaves a trail of feces wherever they go.

One is child friendly while the other is a rape fest.

Any comparison is a joke.

More evidence (as if any were needed) that the media lefties live in a bubbble of their own making).

a. Never undestood the TEA movement’s sound intellectual foundation.
b. Thinks that Democrat Lite RINOs are “moderate”.

It is obvious from that statement that Weidner does not have a brain. OWS was a collection of burned out street hippies who were working for $10 per hour for the Commie "Community Organizer", Total Fail.

“What an ignoramus”

You got that right! OWS seems to want nothing but handouts from the producers in the country.

If they would spend more time concentrating on earning their own living, they might be able to make something of themselves.

Wherever they hold a meeting or sit in or whatever, they leave the place trashed.

Contrast that with the TEA Party.

OWS was mostly college age kids who had no real conviction but was buttered up by college profs and politicos to go out and "change the world"... problem is, they had no staying power beyond their own discomforts.

The system they were rallying against was not putting them in death camps, persecuting and jailing them for dissent. The system they were rallying against was allowing them to look like idiots... they were even fed and provided for, so long as they beat their drums and chanted idiotic slogans. What were they protesting? A system that in fact gives them a chance to become whatever they can imagine themselves becoming, even the evil bank president if they have the gumption.

Hopefully, some have learned that change doesn't come at the end of a drum stick or by defecating on a police car... those things only make you look stupid. Change will only come when they carry their convictions into their professions, and hopefully those convictions are laced with Godly morals, not communistic imaginings as taught by their dear old college profs.

True dat. If you couldn’t see it from the git go, you are/were not very perceptive. Tea Party with brains.

Yeah. Suck it.

At least he admits he’s an ignoramus. Somewhat refreshing.

Though its core message — that big finance and greed undermines society and corrupts our political system — is fundamentally correct,

Interestingly, a lot of the tea party rage was for the same reason. The government bailing out banks, car companies, etc. angered a lot of people.

The tea party wants to cut taxes.

Far more of the tea partiers wanted spending cut more than tax cuts. Government spending has a polluting effect whether the money comes from taxes, borrowing or just running the printing presses. If you cut taxes but borrow and print more you are in just as deep of hole.

OWS was an Epic Fail before the unions raced to their rescue last October. They were utterly clueless on how to organize themselves, or even coherently express what it is that they want. My daughter knows some kids who got caught up in it, and basically they were just there to relive Woodstock. Sex, Drugs and Rock n’ Roll, Dude!”
