This letter has taken me a few days to compose because of the conflicting emotions that I've experienced since the day of the Roast and it's subsequent airing. The environment of the Roast is a comedic (hopefully), tasteless (mostly always), affair that encourages everyone to out-filth each other. Not normally what I'm known for, right? But, when I was invited, I jumped at the chance to play outside of my perceived "norm" and have fun. The Jeff joke was written for me and at the end of the day I take full responsibility for saying it. It wasn't meant as a slam to Trig and at the time I didn't see it that way.
I could defend it as a performer, but I would rather apologize from the bottom of my heart as a father. I understand how a parent, who loves their child, who tries to nurture and shield them when they cannot defend themselves, would take offense.. I have many times experienced this feeling. I've had awful things said about my daughter.. Violent and most times racial stabs. Being in the spotlight I have built a thick skin to these sorts of things. My daughter ( who's now old enough to understand ) is another story. That being said I write this letter with sensitivity and a strong stance of responsibility for my actions.
I thank everyone who's expressed their opinion for reminding me that my voice is heard... It's easy to forget sometimes in front of cameras and lights.
To the Palins, please know that no malice or harm was meant. To the other families who were touched negatively, I hope you'll be able to accept this apology as well.
I've always said that people in the public eye should be held responsible for what you say and I'm no hypocrite. Thanks for reading and letting me express my side.
Take care all, Wayne

No, he’s a good guy. Always has been. He screwed up and had the class to own up to it; to apologize. Damned few, if any, prominent blacks in this country would do the same.
And Sarah was very gracious in her acceptance of his apology on her page.
Never heard of him.
I actually read it and it seems pretty decent. I was not expecting it to be as sincere. Roasts can be nasty at times and also can get out of hand. The one for Rosanne awhile back was unbelievable nasty towards her by many people. She laughed it off though and was a good sport (for a change).
Screwed up, then manned up. Made an actual apology. More than most would do.
Sarah Palin thanked him briefly on her Facebook page.
Thank you, Wayne Brady. Trig truly is a blessing. I swear, to his family anyway, that extra chromosome he's got is a Love Chromosome! Thank you for your gracious comment today.
I have no idea what is going on but this sounds like a black guy apology.
I in the past had appreciation for Wayne Brady’s humor, he was clean, quick on his feet and played well with others. I did not catch this “joke”...
So, having not heard it I am posting for no apparent reason!
May be the most productive thing I’ve done today- no wait, I put a bed on a truck when I got home from work and did text some friends about the Missouri meltdown and naked KS congressman.
So- was it unforgiveable?
Everyone makes mistakes. He manned up and Sarah was pure class as always.
During the Comedy Central “Roast” of Roseanne Barr last week, Wayne made a very bad-taste joke that mentioned Trig Palin. Details at the link.
Wayne Brady is a class act. His mentioning of race and his personal experiences have to do with barbs coming his way for not being “black” enough. I say its very rare nowadays that you get a public apology that is actually an apology. Good man, that Wayne Brady.
I don’t like these modern day roasts. The Dean Martin roasts were the best. I like to watch all the old stars that I had forgotten about on those on You Tube. They were funny and not mean spirited even though they were taking slams at people.
Classy?
I don’t think so.
Blaming someone else who wrote his Jokes that he approved and he delivered it.
I would have preferred bacon jokes for the Muslims. (s)
Seriously when will all this stop.
Just live our lives and stop all this stuff.
Good to read. This was one event that disappointed me more than I ever realized it would. My family and I really like him.
Time was (1950s, 1960s) the Friar’s Club roasts were an inner circle event, taped for posterity but kept from the public at large.
Now the culture is in the gutter 24/7 so it is considered “prime time tv entertainment”.
The lavender mafia and other special interest groups would not be happy to hear those tapes.
ya ya, heard it all before, you know what its like cause your daughter is black and we all know how poorly blek folk git treated... give me a break, it’s white fold who get crapped on these days and you honky damn well know it. Don’t give me that, poor me I’m black, stuff maing...
The only thing he doesn’t say is that he shouldn’t have said it. So it’s better than most liberal speech, but I couldn’t call it an apology.
