They've pulled the 'RAPE' card; now Akin should stick to his guns (vanity)
the leftist attack media | 8/20/2012 | me

The mainstream media have gleefully pulled the "RAPE" card. We conservatives should recognize this for what this is:
There is no real issue, no real "outrage" over what Akin said. In fact, what Akin said is generally true, albeit inartfully said.

No, what is really going on here is the Left's campaign of distraction. Dangle a shiny object, blanket the airwaves and other media with non-stop "discussion" of this "controversy," and distract voters from real issues.

Here is what Akin should do:

1. Call a news conference. Have a pro-life ob/gyn/physiologist stand up and answer questions on this topic. I.e., tell the world the truth that pregnancy as a result of traumatic rape IS, in fact, RARE.

2. Bring Norma McCorvey to this news conference too. Norma, as many of us know, is the original "Roe" of Roe v. Wade. She will tell the story of how she was induced to claim she was gang-raped. This was a lie of the Left, and perjury to the Court. But it worked; and all our states' abortion laws were struck down, partly on the strength of the lie that pregancies resulting from rapes were common. McCorvey will tell the truth about the use of "rape" as a red herring by the Left.

3. Akin must stick to his guns. Stand up, and do it with conviction. Voters admire a candidate who has the courage of his convictions.

And here is what we conservatives should NOT do:

We should NOT join the msm pile on. We should NOT ridicule and condemn Akin like the rabid Left and their henchmen in the msm are doing right now.

You know, we have just seen Paul Ryan show the courage of his convictions in taking on another hot button issue ... Medicare.

How about we take a lesson from Ryan and NOT run away like scared little children every time the Alinsky-ites pull a shiny object out of their bag of sleazy tricks.

Fellow Freepers, I've rarely posted a vanity.

I'm doing it today because I find it very disturbing that many conservatives seem to be running for the hills on this issue. Don't retreat. STAND UP AND FIGHT.

I only hope that woman in this country aren’t half as stupid as the media and the DNC think they are.

I agree with you. Unfortunately, the “we must retreat” crowd has taken over FR. I don’t know when I’ve seen so much hand wringing and bed wetting. I find it more than disturbing, I find it truly sickening.

Sometimes I think we deserve to lose.

Thanks. Yes, very discouraging to see all the bed-wetting on this non-issue.

FR, a strongly pro-life site, is the last place on earth we should be seeing conservatives retreat and concede the race to the odious McCaskill.

Good quote from another forum. Not mine

“There’s a way to make his argument, which is something like: “The unimaginable emotional trauma of being raped does not excuse the killing of an innocent child, who did not choose these circumstances anymore than the victim herself.”

You can say that—agree or disagree, it’s a consistent way to express your position. Instead. . .he comes up with some utterly bizarre pseudo-medical explanation.”

For every Dr. this guy brings out, the left will find one that refutes it. Stick to morals.

I heard the audio. It was no big deal.

Akin is safe as he's running in a conservative area. The media is after bigger game here.

Just a few facts:
1. According to the Justice Department, one in two rape victims are under age 18; one in six are under age 12.
2. The adult pregnancy rate associated with rape is estimated to be 4.7%. This information, in conjunction with estimates based on the U.S. Census, suggest that there may be 32,101 annual rape-related pregnancies among American women over the age of 18.17

So your ok with 1500+ pregnancies per year due to rape being "RARE". I just love self righteousness!

It's not a matter of running for he hills. Akin's comment was just plain ignorant and he absolutely deserves to be called on it.

Ordinarily, I would agree with you, I hate the fact that Pubbies don’t back up their candidates very well but I’m having a tough time with this one. Maybe, it’s partly due to the fact that Aiken was my least favorite of the three candidates (he didn’t seem too bright to me even then). Maybe it’s because there was an apparently large crossover vote in the primary to help him & a few others down ballot. Maybe, it’s because this opens up the whole “war on Women” distraction with vengeance. I’ve been on his FB page & would ascertain he hasn’t a chance to recover. I’m sure Claire Bear probably didn’t expect him to screw up so soon, but I’m inclined to think he needs to go........wish it weren’t so.......

What good is a great idea if you can't sell it?

He failed the fundamental test of being a politician...the ability to convince others to agree with you. In fact, he did the opposite. People are running to get away from him. He's managed to drag the entire party into his statistical blabbering. He's hurting the Pro-Life argument.

He needs to STFU and go away.

Instead. . .he comes up with some utterly bizarre pseudo-medical explanation.

Nothing bizarre about it. Have you never known a woman who was trying to get pregnant and, when the doctor could find nothing medically wrong, told her to relax and the pregnancy would happen? Are all doctors to advise that guilty of malpractice?

This is amazing!

Folks are demanding that an adamantly pro-life nominee should withdraw. Why aren’t these same folks demanding the withdrawal of Romney, an (as yet) unnominated candidate with a pro-abortion history?

Akin will do better in his race than Romney will do in his doomed presidential candidacy. In two weeks, no one will remember exactly what Akin said; they will remember only that he is pro-life at all times in all cases. In two weeks, Romney will still be Romney, a loser.

Wake up, folks!

I suspect this is the real reason so many FReepers are having a hissy fit over Akin. . .because Sarah Palin endorsed Sarah Steelman.

What a stupid reason.

You will not win that one in the public debate. Akin can try all he wants and will be destroyed. Just state he is against killing a child regardless of the mistakes that led to it and stand by that. Nothing else needs to be said. You will have dr’s walked out left and right fighting the chances of getting pregnant (whether true or false).

Red herring. His pro-life beliefs have nothing do with it. It was his ignorant comment concerning legitimate rape and pregnancy that has him in hot water. You can be pro-life without saying stupid things about rape.

OMG. You need to stop. This kind of asinine argument makes all conservatives look like Neanderthals. This is where we get our reputation from. What he said was idiotic and unsubstantiated. You shouldn’t have to break out a Physician’s Deskside reference to understand what a candidate is saying about getting pregnant. We lose this seat if he doesn’t drop out.

Not to mention Romney now has to take focus from the economy to social issues which is where we lose the general election as well. Atkin should be ran out of the party and branded the idiot he is!
